Great for Everything
I'm a developer as well as a gamer, so when I was looking to build a PC last year the first thing I wanted to look at was an i7 and I started my build based around it. This little guy never stops amazing me. Having quad cores means you can get insane speeds running complex programs or multiple at once. The dual threading allows you to even push that higher, so when I compile code it zips through like nobody's business. I pair this with a Radeon 6770 graphics card and games run beautifully and I've never managed to really bog the processor down. Installing is as easy as any other processor, so if you know what you're doing it'll be a snap. If you don't, then seek guides or videos on how to do it before you start putting it on the board. It's not hard, but you don't want to risk damaging the fragile pins. Box comes with everything you need, which isn't much more than some documentation and a sticker. If you're into overclocking you'll need the 2600k but this thing is powerful enough stock that I haven't even considered that. All in all, everything I expected and more.

Works Great
I bought this Processor for the first computer I built. (See complete build list below.) In the past I was dealing with a Dell Netbook that was slow and could barely power a 19" monitor. The speeds of this processor is awesome! Its like it never thinks but I know it does. When I look at processors processing(sounds like a dr sues word) I see all 4 with 1-10% of their ability used. Granted for what I do on the computer (Web browsing some Excel and MS Word, music streaming and videos) I may have overbought, but I wanted to be able to keep the system for many years. And for the few dollars more then the step down, this felt like a great buy! I normally use two 21" widescreen monitors, but often hook this rig up to my 55" Samsung LED and it never skips a beat! As a critical part of the PC, I think its good not to skimp on a processor. I didn't need the unlocked one as I have no need to overclock and this run pretty quick. OH so you don't get fooled like I did, it goes come with a HeatSink/FAN. I wasn't sure if it did and bought another one, but I'm glad I did as it never gets above 90F (coupled with the case I bought -- see parts list) Here is the complete build list for my PC (Monitors and TV not included I did this all for under $1000!!!!) I just watched for the best values on Amazon over a few weeks as I was in no rush. I used this processor to start my first PC build Intel Core i7-2600 Processor 3.4GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1155 I used this motherboard that accepted the chip like a champ! ASUS P8P67 LGA 1155 SATA 6Gbps USB 3.0 Supported Intel P67 ATX DDR3 2400 Motherboards P8P67 PRO <REV 3.1> (It comes with cables no need to buy others) 18IN SATA 2.0 HARD DRIVE CABLE I got the following 2TB HD It was only $79! but I think its higher now Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive WD20EARX This power supply was bought to cover the power needs of the Video card and with the thoughts of possible expansion but it is really overkill for me right now, but I'd rather have more power and its highly rated Corsair Enthusiast Series 650-Watt 80 Plus Bronze Certified Power Supply Compatible with Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and AMD platforms - CMPSU-650TXV2 Speaking of Video cards! Intel Core i7 2600 Great product!!!
Well, I bought this CPU as an inversion, i'm a designer, musician and gamer. I really wanted to have my own great PC, and even without the Intel Graphics 3000 that i7 2600K has as an advantage, games and programming software runs eficiently, even two, or more of them at the same time. If you want one of the most powerfull CPU on the market, buy it. You'll never regret. These are the components of my machine, I don't know what kind of PC do you want. But really, this CPU works too eficiently. Games and programming software runs eficiently, even two, or more of them at the same time (in my case). Just buy it. You'll never regret. CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.0) RAM: Corsair Vengeance Blue 8 GB (2X4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 Video Card: EVGA GTX 560 Ti Superclocked DS Other components: i think are less important at this review. Games: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2011 Resident Evil 5 Alice Madness Returns Fable 3 Software: Adobe CS5 Guitar Pro 6 Finalle 2011 And more software...

Decent speed, easy to install and get running.
Seems like a good processor, though doesn't seem significantly faster than my previous AMD Phenom 2.2 GHz quad-core. Easy enough to install, though, in a new Intel mobo. Good documentation and DVD install disk. Wish it would have had at least one IDE terminal, though.

Great CPU, memory and power supply.
I got this CPU with 16 Gb of RAM and compatible ASUS motherboard. It has been more than 10 years since I built a desktop from scratch. After my last computer crashed, I decided to try again. The hard part was deciding which combination of CPU, memory and motherboard. Finally, I went with the Intel i7-2600, Corsair 16 GB DDRS3 SDRAM, ASUS LGA 1155 motherboard and Corsair Enthusiast 750-Watt power supply. I had to return the CPU cooler "Cooler Master V8" since it was huge and combersome to install. I did NOT know that the i7-7600 came with a CPU cooler which I figured should be adequate for my needs. The desktop is not going to be used for games or anything that computation intensive. I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I reused my 2 hard disk drives from the previous computer. It has been more than a month now and everything is working just great.

I brought this has I wanted to upgrade to USB 3.0 and socket 1155 from 1156 i5 750. Got a bargain for £95 from JTC Computers. From previous experience ASUS motherboards are the best so got a P8P67 3.0 from here too a bargain for £35. Now I knew the multiplier is sort off locked on this but I knew Turbo V would up the GHZ if used. Placed in a new Gigabyte full ATX. Installed in m/b with a fresh copy of windows 7. Opened Turbo V and sure enough five minutes later from standard 3.4 ghz to Intel turbo 3.8 and then Turbo V 4.6 Ghz. My advice is get ASUS motherboard and buy this, you do not need the (K) version. Amazing CPU, running at 4.6 Ghz, hardly been above 20% usage yet. Blows anything AMD has into space. My build: Gigabyte full ATX P8P67 3.0 1155 motherboard i7 2600 (Non K) Turbo V overclocked to 4.6 Ghz Sandisk SSD - Windows 7 installed on G-Skill 16gb RAM 2100 mhz XMP profile 500gb Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 1 TB Western Digital green 1 TB Samsang Lite-on DVD rom 16x speed So - You will not need to upgrade for another five years, There is nothing out there that comes close for the money. Thanks
