My favorite Mackerel
For the price, you can beat this. Fantastic quality and good price. Texture is great and the flavor is just as expected.Having these on hand is so nice for an easy meal and the best-by date is usually many years out so they last a while

for something different. Mild flavor, great texture, versatile. Soft peel back lid
Goodness this exceeds my expectations. Season makes some excellent products, so I am not surprised that this mackerel is so good. So much better than other canned mackerel. I dont eat a lot of canned fish, but I try to keep a variety of foods in my pantry. I do enjoy the occasional sardine, and less often mackerel. I usually buy sardines from Season, so when I saw this mackerel in the warehouse I decided to give it a try. Glad I did, it is delicious.Mild taste, pleasant mild aroma. Little less fishy than sardines. Really easy to eat. I added it on top of some healthy lupini bean pasta and just gobble it up. I just dump the contents fish and all right on top of the pasta. It's so good. Easy to eat direct from can, or add to salad, or mash up a little to make a sandwich (like a tuna sandwich).Well packaged, and I was surprised to see such a long best by date (12/2024) for something i bought from the warehouse.I'm happy, and wouldnt hesitate to buy it again.

Top Quality Fish
Minus 1 star for being a bit overpriced, but otherwise a top quality 5 star product. Very mild fish taste with a hint of grilled flavor, and you can tell the fish was cooked and packed very fresh. I love using the olive oil in it to cook my rice or pasta in with to infuse deep flavor into the rice or pasta as it cooks and rehydrates. No since wasting the heart healthy olive oil! To costly to waste any of it. Then I add in the rest of the fish along with fresh steamed veggies, mushrooms, spicy Asian chili crisp "the same used in dan dan noddles", a dash of soy sauce after the rice is cooked. So very good for a rich hearty healthy dinner. Love it!

Great low sodium mackerel fillets
I like the mackerel fillets. Their flesh is more firm then herring, a great natural source of omega 3, and does not have a strong fishy taste. This a great way to get protein and omega 3. Thanks

Mild flavor-great if you don’t like fish
I am not a fish eater. Don’t like the taste, don’t like the smell. I’ve gradually been making peace with it due to food allergies that have excluded a lot of traditional meats, as well as being on a four day rotation diet due to said allergies.I was getting mackerel in olive oil from Wild Planet, then found out I’m allergic to olives. When I order their version of mackerel in water, I was repulsed by it. Two giant hunks of fish with the bones and skin on. If you don’t like fish, skin left on is not going to make you like it more. It significantly increases the stink and the fish taste. So I looked for an alternative and was happy to find this! The flavor is mild and not repulsive. That’s a really high compliment from a non-fish eater.

Serious Quality Control and Customer Service Problems!
Serious Quality Control and Customer Service Problems!I had been eating these mackerels from Season-- specifically, "In Water, No Salt Added"-- for years, finding them quite satisfactory. (I cannot compare with other mackerel products on the market, as I have not tried any that I can recall.) Starting at some point within the last year or two, however, I encountered at least one batch of the product and possibly more that obviously had to have been mislabeled; it clearly and unmistakably tasted MUCH SALTIER than it ever had before in all the years that I had been consuming it.Then, in March (2016), I encountered at least one can, from a case of twelve that I had purchased, that appeared to be packed in some type of OIL; not in the water that, throughout all the years that I had been using the product, i had always found it to be packed-in before. I underscore that in both cases-- with the mackerels that contained added salt as well as with the ones that appeared to be packed in oil-- the boxes were labeled, "In Water, No Salt Added". I would always check carefully and verify this before opening a box.On March 22nd, I reported the problems that I described above to the company, using the email address that I got from the Season web site ( [...] ). A week later, having not received any reply to my email, I re-sent it. Still nothing. Finally, on April 12th, some three weeks after sending my initial email, I received a reply requesting that I provide the UPC for the product-- something I had already done in my initial email. I replied that same day, quoting and highlighting the portion of my original email that contained the UPC. It has now been nearly six weeks and I have yet to receive any further response from Season/Manischewitz.In conclusion:The "Season Skinless & Boneless Mackerels in Water, No Salt Added" that I had enjoyed for a number of years-- the one that I had no reason to believe was anything other than the product indicated on the label-- was a fine product that I would rate at least four stars. As described above, however, I have encountered numerous cans during the past one-to-two years that, if not mislabeled, had one or more mysterious and quite severe problems. To make matters worse, my attempts at reporting the problems to Season have been met with an absolutely abysmal lack of response. For these reasons, I cannot rate this product any higher than one star. Should I see the problems rectified, I will consider raising my rating. The reasons behind my decision to write this review can be summarized as follows:1.) To alert others of what to watch-out for when purchasing this product,2.) To encourage others who had the same or similar experiences as mine to report them (I can't imagine that there aren't any and even /many/ such others and I am quite puzzled to not find any in the reviews here),and.3.) To pressure Season/Manischewitz to finally respond-to the very serious quality control and customer problems that are evidenced in my report.**ADDENDUM, July 12, 2016: Specific Batch Codes***I wish to share the specific codes printed on the boxes, respectively, for both the product that appears to be packed in oil as well as for two batches that I just sampled that are good (appear and taste to be as labeled: packed in water, without added salt):Appears to be packed in OIL:"AGR: 1927 CN314Y Best By: 12/31/2017 BN"GOOD: Best By:BJ.L.331 U-MA 1709 11/27/2016BJ.L.184 Z-MA 1709 07.03.2018
