CGEIT Questions, Answers & Explanations, 5th Edition (English and Italian Edition)

Get the other ISACA books for Risk IT, Value IT and COBIT 5 or 2019.

I was provided my copy of this book from the company for which I work. This is invaluable for two reasons: (1) it contains a set of sample questions similar to the ones you should expect when taking the exam. The introduction emphasizes that the questions will not be the actual ones that are used in the exam, but will be similar. That is a key distinction that you need to keep in mind. (2) There is a sample exam, and a separate scoring key to test your knowledge after working through the review questions, answers and explanations.While most folks don't bother reading book introductions, this one contains some important insights. Foremost is the an explanation that the exam will be based on input from international sources, so your own experience may lead you to provide an answer that will be graded as incorrect. In addition, the introduction emphasizes that questions are eliciting the BEST answer from among the four answer choices. That means that you need to carefully consider the possible answers, many of which will be partially correct. Note that exam also reflects reorganized and consolidated CGEIT job practices, which have gone from six to four domains. In addition, the percentage of exam questions from each domain have changed as follows: Governance of IT 40%, IT Resources 15%, Benefits Realization 25% and Risk Optimization 20%. In addition, the Introduction recommends that this book be used in conjunction with the CGEIT Review Manual 8th Edition. I do not have that book, but instead used two COBIT books as references: COBIT 2019 Implementation Guide: Implementing and Optimizing an Information and Technology Governance Solution (my primary resource), and COBIT 2019 Framework: Governance and Management Objectives (frequently referenced during my preparations).You can also glean a lot of information from the four sections of the questions, answers and explanations that cover each domain. Of course the question and identification of the correct answer are important exam preparation aids, but the real value is contained in the explanations. Each of the possible answers, including the correct one) are covered in each explanation of the question/answer pairing. I learned a lot from this element because it provides insights into how questions are worded, as well as the nuances of each possible answer. My first pass through each domain was a reckoning for me because my percentage of correct answers was abysmal. The next pass I took my time and carefully read and considered each possible answer and scored much higher.As of this review I have not taken the actual CGEIT exam, so cannot say how effective this manual is. I will say that it has forced me to delve deeper into enterprise governance for IT - a work area in which I have a great deal of experience - and come away with a deeper understanding. In that respect, even if I were to not pursue certification this book has already proven itself as an invaluable refresher and check on my understanding of IT governance.
