Much criticised and unfairly maligned by rock 'n' roll 'authorities' over the years, Boone's rock 'n' roll catalogue was supremely popular in the U.S., the U.K., Germany and the rest of the world at the height of the rock 'n' roll era! In 1955 and '56, Boone visited the charts on both sides of the Atlantic regularly with a treasure trove of rockin' titles. This new compilation features 34 recordings from the period 1955 through to 1962. Here are classic covers of Fats Domino's Ain't That A Shame, I'm In Love Again and The Fat Man, Little Richard's Long Tall Sally and Tutti Frutti, Big Joe's Honey Hush, Tennessee Ernie's Shotgun Boogie, and Red Foley's Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy.

Pat helped to make rock n roll popular
Pat is not Little Richard, but he made rock n roll more radio friendly in those early days. His version of Rock ain't bad either. Sure, it's tame compared to most originals, but he has a very good voice, and this CD is enjoyable. This CD give Pat the credit he deserves.

Great Collection Of The R&R Sides Recorded By The Much-Maligned Pat Boone
As the Editorial Review says, Pat Boone is one of those who have been unfairly denigrated by the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine and Irwin Stambler (Encyclopedia of Pop, Rock and Soul), not to mention so-called comedians of the day who, it seems, always manage to pick out one or two recording artists in each era who, despite an obvious huge popularity among fans in general, they pan unmercifully. Then there’s the unctuous R&R Hall Of Fame who somehow can’t understand that, in their context, they should only judge the music in the context of its time, and not by current day standards. And if current members of the selection committee didn’t live through that early era of the birth of R&R, how can they possibly judge the contributions of artists such as Pat Boone and Connie Francis to the genre? From 1955 to 1969, Pat put 60 sides onto the Billboard Pop Top/Hot 100, with 4 cross-overs to the R&B charts (all but one for Dot Records), and sold albums in the millions. And, as Bear Family points out in this great volume (excellent sound reproduction and detailed liner notes), many of them qualified as R&R AT THE TIME. Those that made the national singles charts are:Two Hearts - # 16 Pop April-May 1955 - Dot 15338;Ain’t That A Shame - # 1 Pop for 2 weeks/# 14 R&B July-Aug 1955 - Dot 15377;At My Front Door (Crazy Little Mama) - # 7 Pop/# 12 R&B Oct-Dec 1955 - Dot 15422;Tutti Frutti - # 12 Pop Jan-March 1956 - Dot 15433;Long Tall Sally - # 8 Pop April-May 1956 - Dot 15457;I’m In Love With You - # 57 Pop June-July 1956 - Dot 15472;Good Rockin’ Tonight - # 49 Pop Jan-Feb 1959 - Dot 15888.Others such as Money Honey, Honey Hush, Flip, Flop And Fly, I’m In Love Again, Stagger Lee and Tweedle Dee helped sell his albums in the millions.
