dissapointing: zero replay value
After playing the game all the way through, all puzzles are solved, all mysteries are revealed, all AI opponents strategies are cracked and countered. Pretty game, but ZERO replay value. Buy Unreal Tournament 2003 instead: when patched up to the most current patch level, it's a blast of a game with infinite replayability.

Time to Upgrade
I've only played it for a few days so far. Glossy, polished, finished quality. So far, haven't encountered any bugs (except the ones you kill in the game). Typical storyline, with a few twists, but nothing yet that stands out as being "ground-breaking".It's probably one of the most visually stunning games out. I say probably because my computer (fastest thing going a year ago) doesn't have what it takes to run the game with all the eye candy enabled. Regardless of what it says on the box, you won't realize the game's full potential without a killer computer.P4 1.2 GHz or greater recommended? More like 2.4 GHz384 MB RAM recommended? More like 512 MBGeForce 3 or Radeon 8500 recommended? Maybe, but should have at least 128 on-board RAMCheck this one out... 3 Gig of hard drive space. My install currently uses 2.4 Gig when the game isn't running.Still... even with a bland game setup, the game runs and looks great.

data3.cab corruption on disc 2
I wish I could say how great this game is but I can't even install it. There are 2 discs for installation. The first disc will install without a hitch. The second disc, however, has a corrupt file on it (data3.cab) and cannot be read/copied no matter what you try. Thus, the installation will fail every time. Buyer beware about this one... not worth the headache.

terrible gameplay
the gfx might be good.... but what good are realistic graphics when the gameplay stinks? This game has amateur-game-studio written all over it.... There is only one way to beat every level! that makes it basicly a walk-through interactive movie with linear advancement... gets very boring and doesnt require intuitive or logical thinking on the part of the player. After playing games like deus ex or nolf/nolf2, which had excellent story as well as multiple ways to complete each level, a game like unreal2 is a joke.plus there are lengthy loading screens about every 5-10 mins of play....and im on a p4-2.26ghz with 1GB of pc4200 and it takes 1min+ to load levels! I mean max payne had nearly as good gfx in unreal2, but had much shorter loading screens and they were few and far between.... and not to mention in unreal2 u must wait 1min+ just to quick load after you die... it really tests your patience.on another note, the reason i gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the introduction movie/ingame cinematic (with studio logos) actually puts you in awe... very breathtaking..... but from there on out the game goes downhill.also, for people experiencing crashes.. there is a patch out that fixes it.. i had the same problem (i had to disable EAX) but after patch i can now enable it again and the game runs fine.--------------------------------overall.... this game is a waste of money.. it belongs in a jewel case on the "value shelf".-duck

Okay-ish FPS but fails because it isn't Unreal
In 1998 Tim Sweeney changed the face of FPS gaming forever. Unreal was released and became a major gaming hit that revolutionized fps, along with practically reinventing the game engine (the unreal engine is a very important core gaming tool behind many modern fps today). That concept was a reality thanks to Tim Sweeney spending 3 years in his garage. At the time this was the reason to buy a graphics cards like a Voodoo or a TNT and run it on your Windows 95 system.Unreal was a deep game, lots of levels, lots of running around, lots of shooting, mindless blasting, pressing levers, going through levels that have some maze qualities, running across the same bad guys with some variations, the textures, AI and level design surprisingly still able to deliver on a satisfactory game play today. Unreal beats a lot of fps games that have since been released. It is an all-time great for those of us gamers out there who remember the end of the 90s and remember what it was like to play fps games that people would line up around the block to buy.Unreal was not followed up directly by Unreal 2. In fact Unreal become a multiplayer called Unreal Tournament that was released in 1999. The next update was Unreal Tournament 2003.Unreal 2 was released in 2004. It pretty much tanked for a couple of reasons. The first was that it was not a sequel to the original Unreal (that ended in a cliff hanger). Unreal 2 is a new story about a marine that travels from planet to planet picking up alien artefacts while blasting aliens. Unreal 2 has some great looking environments. There is a game here and if you have played the best FPS has to offer then Unreal 2 is worth checking out. However it is nothing like Unreal and that is a major drawback. Also it is 10 times slower than the original Unreal as your marine walks at a snail's pace about in a clunky suit. The missions are very leisurely, linear and extremely easy to beat. The game isn't a challenge but at the same time the environments are very well rendered but the story isn't very good. I found myself finishing it though because there are only so many FPS games out there. So if you are looking for an FPS you haven't played then I would suggest replaying the original Unreal and then if you feel you must then go for this (it is usually available in Unreal box sets). All in all this game was a cut below par but did look good at times and there is a nice array of weapons to use but the spirit of Unreal is departed and what is left is something that doesn't deserve the name it has.Pros:EnvironmentsRange of gunsCons:It is not UnrealIt is very slowStory is not good

Very short game.
It should never have been called unreal period. It is a decent "first person" shooter game, but was very short. If I would have paid $40.00 I'd have been very disapointed. It only took 8 - 10 hrs to beat and I'm not a pro gamer!
