I was looking for a New American Standard Bible translation to use for my writing which would complement my other translations at home. This hardcover edition of The MacArthur Study Bible (Updated Edition) definitely provided me so much more than just the basic, inexpensive, hardbound NASB translation that I was looking for. The text is easy to read, printed on (thin) quality paper and is loaded with study features. Each page of my Large Print Edition is nicely arranged for study with a double-column format and relevant study notes at the bottom of each page. The notes are in a different font style so they are distinct from the biblical text. A center column on each page contains additional verse references and literal word renderings. Some of the features include a pretty traditional set of maps, an excellent concordance and an exceptional series of charts spread throughout the Old and New Testaments, providing a tremendous amount of relevant study information. The placement of the charts and study notes on the applicable page make referencing the material much simpler than other Study Bibles, like the Thompson Chain Reference Bible and the Scofield Study Bible. A general Introduction to the Bible is also included, along with information on How We Got The Bible, How To Study The Bible and a nice explanation on how to best use the general format of this Bible. The OT and NT have an additional introduction, as well as information on the Pentateuch (First five books of the OT) and an introduction to the OT Prophets. Each book of the OT and NT also have its own individual introduction. As you can see, this isn't your grandfather's Bible. It's a fully-equipped Study Bible with enough helpful reference material to keep you busy for quite some time! The notes and other material are written with the general reader in mind; that is, they are very helpful and you don't have to be a Bible scholar to understand them. That in itself is a big plus. The hardcover I purchased comes with a dust jacket and because I chose the Large Print Edition, it is a rather thick, heavy book (2 1/2 inches thick & over 4 and a half pounds). Thankfully, I don't plan on carrying it around with me, and it will stay on my computer desk at home. With such a large volume, I am concerned how well the binding will hold up over time, since it is not a stitched binding? Whether it does or not, I will add an addendum to this review later on and let you know. I got a deal on my copy from a seller on Amazon.com (60% off -- Like New), so with the NASB translation I was looking for, all of the study notes and a bushel of reference material I would want in a study Bible, it will probably come as no surprise to hear I am very pleased with The MacArthur Study Bible.

I had a contest on Facebook and a lady made a comment to win this. So many others wanted this because it is so desirable. It is large print and has all the study notes which explain what the verse means. You'll love this bible and it will be a treasure to you for a long time.

Beautiful, well made leather Bible. The Nasb is considered the most accurate translation. The print is easy for me (74) to read, and the comentery is still readable, but smaller text. Good maps, and lots of info, like who each book author was and some background history. I love it.

The best study bible I own. This is a must have for serious Bible students. Tons and tons of outstanding information that will help the reader have a deep understanding of what the Scriptures say. Plus I love the NASB text since it's such an accurate and literal word for word translation. I highly recommend this study bible.

Love the Bible and the explanatory notes. I just wish it didn’t have the thumb index.

There are so many resources, notes, cross references, maps, etc. It is amazing for bible study. It is a beautiful bible that you would have to see to believe. I will break this down into a couple pros and cons. I would have gone 5 stars were it not for the cons. Pros: Huge value considering how much extra content is included. The look is classic and professional. Printing is clear and easy to read (large text) Lifetime guarantee through Thomas Nelson Easy to follow a subject's trail and really study. I have a few study bibles but this outshines them all. Cons: Every 2-3 pages was stuck together at a corner (sometimes top, less often bottom) I had to go page by page to separate these pages so that I can look things up frustration free. (Lost half a star for this). Some of the sticker tabs in the index notches were put on wrong and it caused the sticker to stick to another page, causing a rip in that area when separated (half a star lost there). I would have traded it in for a different one, but as soon as I opened it I had my wife fill out the presented area to me since it was an early Birthday present. Pros outweigh the cons. Be sure to get highlighters that are anti-bleed through because your normal bible markers would likely bleed right through. In the company's defense, I would need a wagon to carry it if the paper was thicker. I recommend this product. Hopefully the issues were a one off and not common. Looks like the binding is a bit weak, but it is holding up fine now so I won't borrow trouble by worrying about it.

This is the Bible that helped reconnect me to Jesus in my life. It is hefty & takes up some space, but the font size works well for my 49 year old eyes. It is also the Bible that people that I see loving Jesus in their daily life suggested would work best for me.
