A Tale of Knights, Ninjas, and Zombies!
This is actually the second one of these that I've purchased so, I'll tell you about the first one. My son picked this sword out at a local toy store for his 6th birthday and has been beating me with it ever since. It has been his favorite weapon against evil knights, ghost ninjas, skeleton kings, and any other creature that his imagination transforms me into. Many other weapons have bent, broken, or simply fallen out of favor with our small knight but, this blade remains, ever present, at his side. While it is true that more than a year of evening contests have worn away much of the green coloring from his blade, it is still in excellent shape and battle ready. So, why am I purchasing a second sword? Well, I used to stand a chance when we shared an arsenal of layered foam swords but, I am simply outclassed and at his mercy when those swords bend against his Zombie Strike Blade. As his arms have grown accustomed to hefting the sword, he has gained speed, accuracy, and strength that allow him to brush aside any other weapon in our armory. The time has come to level the playing field.... the Evil Knight shall rise again!!! I wasn't sure how he'd react when I told him I was buying a new sword... for myself but, his face lit up and he has made a habit of asking me when it will arrive every day on the way home from school since I ordered it. If you are the parent of a budding young knight (or princess assassin?) buy one of these RIGHT now. Wait... no... don't do that. Give yourself a fighting chance and get TWO!!!!

Great toys but read the warnings in this review.
These are great Nerf weapons. Been using them hard with a 3 and 5 year old several times a week and sometimes daily for almost a year, and they are still holding up great. However, I almost feel these things need a few warning labels:WARNING- hurts like crazy when a preschooler or kindergartner sneaks up and whacks you hard across any area of your body with little padding (ie. Shins, ankles, feet, fingers, etc).WARNING- May cause tears in grown men or little boys when applied with too much force.WARNING- May cause damage to glasses.WARNING- May cause mothers to get that cringing/disapproving face every time they see you take advantage of a gap your kid left in their defenses to smack them in the bottom or poke them in the belly with one of these.WARNING- Some children may learn quickly that they have a distinct advantage over grown ups by swinging in a low sweeping motion towards the adults ankles (see warning 1).That last one should come with a yellow and red caution sign that shows a preschooler smacking a tall adult in the the shin while the adult is holding the other ankle and crying.

Cool Zombie Nerf Sword But Look Out For Bent Blade!
I like to purchase foam Nerf swords to battle it out with my nephews and my wife. It's a great way to relive stress and not get hurt. Unfortunately my sword arrived with an extremely bent tip and though I use some of these Nerf swords for messing around I also like to display some of them. Whether because of poor shipping or poor storage be on the lookout for bent blades if you plan on displaying them. Now if you just want to battle with them it's no big deal! The sword has some neat black and green coloring and would work well for an adult as a 'Short Sword of Corrosion' or a 'Long Sword of Poisoning' for a kid, if you are into LARP. It is fairly sturdy and could hurt if jabbed into the eye so tell the kids to be careful. No eye jabbing! It measures 31'' 1/2 from pommel to point. The hilt measures almost exactly 6'' across. The grip base has a hole in it where you could get a string or small leather strap through for either decoration or to hang the sword over your chest.

Durable, well designed and used a lot by my 6 yr old
My six year old son has been expressing interest in swordplay recently. In about 3 months we have gone through 3 swords of different types so I finally decided I would try the Amazon pick.Verdict? It's a solid toy and I can see we will be using it for a very long timeIt's long and is exactly the kind of thing that you would expect from a broadsword. The material is durable and there is a stick inside that is covered by a nerf exterior the entire length of the blade. The good news is this means that it will last a lot longer than the other swords that only have a stick backing about 50% of the length of the bladeThe bad news is that this means if you do indeed end up landing a 'cut' or a strike, that it stings. So parents beware, especially of six year olds that whip you around the ankles. While it is more expensive than some of the other swords here and in toy stores, I opted this time to get one that was more durable rather than have to go looking for a toy sword every three months. If you get this, my only warning would be to wear padding on your arms and calves if you joust with your kid.

Durable and long lasting fun!
I purchased two of these from a Target about half a year ago and used them to informally teach my students "fencing" like Sabre fencing but with no head or arm hits like in foil fencing. Despite constant abuse, both of these Nerf swords remained intact and only recently started to have foam begin to break away in places. I solved that problem by coating them in a single layer of Duct tape. Apart from hilts that are starting to bend a bit too much, they remain viable! This year I have been conducting a fencing club and for it I purchased about a dozen of these. I solved the future problem of loss of foam by preemptively putting duct tape on the blade. With the tape on to prevent any foam being chipped off, I expect these to last a respectable amount of time! For use as a regular toy they should last a VERY long time. Great product!
