This is the first set of pastels that I have used, so I do not have any others to compare with. I love all my other Faber Castell art supplies so I decided to try these. I am still learning how to use them but I love them. Very blendable, good strong colors. Nice selection of colors in the box. I will say, they are Very messy, but I guess that is the same for all brands. Just keep a towel or paper handy to wipe off your hands. I am not an artist, but I use them for coloring art pages. I use them in conjunction with my markers and colored pencils. I wish they had a wrap around them like a few other brands do.

When this asks 'good for beginners', I'm not certain if that is the right question. I've been drawing awhile and have used soft pastels. The beginning pack I got previously was cheap and had good colors, but it gave off an odor which bothered my family. This pack seems like very good quality and no odor. That counts for something. The pigments seem rich. I'm having no trouble blending them together. I am laying down background colors with these, following with pastel pencils by Farber-Castel, then putting in the most detail with Prismacolor pencils. This seems to work well for me.

This is my first drawing with soft pastels. I've watched a few videos and decided they looked interesting. I bought this set of pastels because they have a variety of colors and are relatively inexpensive. I'm not sure if these are really soft but they seem to be to be relatively smeareable. I'm happy with mixing and blending them. Much of my experience is with charcoal and graphite. I've tried colored pencil and watercolor pencil but wasn't happy with them. I'm at the very early learning stage with soft pastels. They allow me to be loose but still draw some sharp lines. I'll try more drawings; I'm not completely turned off by them. They smear my fingers a little but so does charcoal.

They blend well and have a good color assortment. Not as soft as some dry pastels, but still have good coverage.

The price value for this item is excellent which in itself deserves a base of 4 stars! The five stars comes in with the exceptional customer service. I ordered this item and did not realize this was an international seller. So after I made the order I contacted the seller and let them that I needed it a bit sooner to finish a project from school and the shipping time just wasn’t going to work for my needs. The customer service person immediately pulled my order from being shipped and was able to process a refund. I was sad because the price was so good for these but my timeline was just preventing me from waiting. Sadly I had to order a lesser brand just to fulfill my needs. I am highly likely now understanding the delivery time to reorder these in the future because the price is too good. The company showed excellent accommodation and ability to work with my needs and for that they deserve 5 stars!!!
