Great product!
I use this is my 55 gallon freshwater tank along with a second, smaller, heater. I have looked at a lot of different heaters and used several different ones over the years and this is one, if not the best water heater I have used. It is fairly similar in design to many I have used; heat settings in both English and metric units, completely water proof, warranty, and long electrical cable. The one thing I peculiarly like about this product is it has an optional, plastic, cover that helps protect the glass of the heater from damage. The only other heater I can compare to this one is a titanium hater I had to use at one point.Pros:- Very durable- Seems very reliable- Plastic outer shellCons:- Dial to adjust heat is directly on top and can be difficult to adjust if submerged

Steady heat, adjustable, less than 50% of the purchase price of a similar one in a pet store!
So far so good! We needed to buy a heater to get rid of Ich in our aquarium. This was by far the most reasonably priced option. The temp is adjustable and very accurate, according to our thermometer. The water temp has been steady. No issues so far. If need to purchase another heater in the future, this will be my first stop!! Love it!

Not the same one in the picture, but seems ok.
Seems like a good heater' the only reason for 3 stars as of now is that it is not the same o e in the picture. I'm not too concerned with it but the other style is easier to set the template then this one is. Will update review after a few months of use. After having this 300 watt heater in my 45 gallon tank that I'm starting to cycle for 48 hours, I feel it will not support a 75 gallon tank as it described it the ad. I can not get my tank to 90degrees Fahrenheit for my cycle process. In a 70 degree room it is only able to heat to around 84 degrees. I'm sure once I'm done the cycle it will hold at 78 degrees but until then I will put another one in the tank to help out.Update:2-9-17 it doesn't work anymore. Won't even heat a 5 gallon bucket of water to room temperature. Don't waste your money. Just buy a good one from the start.

Nice aquarium heater and an economical price!
The product seems well made and the guard will definitely protect your fish from the heater. The 2 included suction cups keep the heater firmly attached to the aquarium wall in whatever position you need. I have been using the heater for 10 days at this point and it is working well as a second heater in my 65g bowfront tank. It seem like a good heater, especially considering the economical price. I actually wanted to purchase another as a back-up, but they are currently out of stock. BTW-I received several follow-up emails from the company asking if everything was to my satisfaction. I replied to one message asking when more would be available and received a reply less than 24 hours later. Seems like good customer service to me.

Must have gotten a defective one
Unfortunately this didn't work so I sent it back. It would not keep the temp up to where it showed on the display. Even with it turned up close to 90, it never heated the water past 74. I even tested it in a 1 gallon container - same issue. This is not the first time I've had this issue with a heater. I'm assuming I just got a bad one because I ordered another one like this from Zarco - appears to be the same heater except a few inches shorter (which is nice)...but still 300w. That one had the same exact problem. I contacted the company and they gave me a code to get a replacement for free and that one worked fine.Over the years I have not had good luck with heaters like this - I've either had to dial them way over or way under to get the desired temp (78 degrees). Not sure why these things are so unreliable overall. I shouldn't have to spend $50 to get a consistently working heater.

Great merchant. Disappointed in the heater.
The folks at Fish Guards are awesome! They really go the extra mile. That said, the heater was less than exciting. The cord was too short to allow it to reach the bottom of a 60 gallon tank and then reach 2 feet over to the outlet. The adjustment is difficult, and I still haven't figured out if there's a way to read it. It's doing the required job, but I seem to have fluctuations from 77 - 81 degrees. I'm not too jazzed about that.

Better than other heaters
Shipping was very fast and I received this unit earlier than expected. I plugged it in my aquarium and was worried because the light was not staying on. I contacted the manufacturer and they got back to me right away with a suggestion. I had initially placed the heater right by my intake but moved it over to the opposite end of the aquarium where I have more movement. This tiny change made all the difference. I bought the 300W unit to heat a 150 gal freshwater tank. I am treating ich on cold water fish and wanted something that would not jump to too high of a temp too quickly, but still step up my temps gradually to where I need them to be. The single unit heats 150 gal, increasing 2 degrees per day which is great for what I need it for.If you're maintaining tropical species, then a 300W unit on each side of the tank would probably be better. The temperature gauge is very easy to set and read, unlike other heaters I have had. It also comes with a guard to prevent burns and protect the fish.Very happy!

It works.
Works well for my 55g tank. Haven't tried using it to heat the tank from cold, but it holds 79F. Temperature adjustment knob is quite stiff and very sensitive to small adjustments, but not to the point of being problematic. I suggest setting the temperature (not plugged in) before placing it in the tank, since making adjustments can be difficult at arm's length. Cable is also kind of short - I looped mine around the back of the tank and into the stand cavity below, and only have about 2ft of clearance from the bottom of the tank. Had to raise my power strip off the base of the stand to get enough play for a drip loop, but otherwise it's not really a problem.
