I had a plastic one (the orange one) and the fingers bent laterally, giving a poor representation of the shape being measured. With this one, the fingers were much stiffer, and a lot less likely to bend. I suspect that there's still vulnerability to deformation (like, in the extreme, if you tried to measure a knife-edge head-on), but I trust this one to do the job much more than I did that one.
