Is this universal to all wooden train track sets?

We have a collection of miscellaneous wooden train tracks and accessories and this fit right in with the generic wooden tracks (male to female connection--like a puzzle piece). The movements on this freight lifter thing are just fascinating to watch. Have fun!

Can the crane pick up the cargo from the truck and place it on the train car or is this just a one way trip for the cargo?

I’m not sure I understand your question and I am away from the toy but will explain what I recall. The truck pulls up to the station, you turn the crane in that direction, lower crane and magnet grabs cargo. You wind up to lift cargo, you turn in direction of track and lower cargo on the train car. You must remove cargo from magnet manually, as I recall. I do not believe there is a magnet release of any kind. The whole process can be done in reverse. Sorry if this does not help. I can tell you my grandsons have played with this cargo station a great deal and really seemed to enjoy it. They also love the train station turn around platform with the train car garage. Similar to Thomas The Train Tidmouth Shed.
