Very well made and the perfect open ended toy!
This thing is so cute! We recently played with this during library story time and I knew my daughter would love one at home. She just turned 2 and its perfect for her to practice her tweezer grip and color sorting right now. It includes counting cards too so it would be great for an older toddler as well. the fruit pieces are very well made and everything is great quality. Probably best for 2-4 year olds but I know my nieces who are 5 and 10 would also love playing with this. Learning resources makes the best quality toys for open ended play and learning!

Great sturdy toy with lots of learning possibilities
This was a huge hit with my children (ages 6, 3, and 1). They played so nicely together and had a blast. My youngest is very OCD and she thought it was great that you had to sort out these little fruits into the pie. She also doesn't put things in her mouth as most one-year-olds typically do. So if your baby puts things in their mouth, this is not for them. Comes with 60 fruit (6 yellow grapefruits, 6 yellow bananas, 6 green bananas, 6 green apples, 6 red apples, 6 red berries, 6 purple berries, 6 purple plums, 6 orange oranges, and 6 orange apricots), 2 tongs, 3 double-sided sorting cards, a pie pan, a pie crust with 5 dividers, and a pie crust top that can be used as a bowl to put the fruit while the kids are sorting them out. The sorting card options: By color, By fruit and color, By fruit, By numbers 1-5 or 6-10. It all seems to be made from very durable plastic. My nieces and nephews (ages 4, 2, and 1) came over and played with it as well and my nephew did put them in his mouth. He even tried to chew on them and I saw no tooth marks on the fruit afterwards. I highly recommend this product! It is great to help children with fine motor skills, how to sort things based on one attribute, learning their numbers and how to count.

5 stars
We bought this as a gift for our daughter's third birthday. She is about to turn six and still loves playing with this educational toy. It has quickly become one of our very favorite games to gift as well. It includes a sturdy and really cute pie. The pie comes with 5 different colors (red, orange, yellow, purple, and green) of fruit. There are 60 pieces of fruit! Three double sided cards are included: 2 sides show the certain fruits and their colors, 2 sides includes numbers from 1-10, 1 side shows the shape of colorless fruit and the last side shows a color wheel. The crust and dividers remove so that you can place sorting cards in the bottom of the pie to encourage a sorting activity. It also comes with 2 large tweezers that are perfect for little hands to practice working on fine motor skills. My daughter has always been a sorter and organizer so we knew this would be right up her alley. My daughter also loves to pulls this out for pretend play and makes us all kinds of different pies in her play kitchen. I really can't recommend this product enough.

Great for preschoolers
My toddler loves this pie and the fun colorful fruit keep her interested and entertained for a long time. The quality is sturdy and I like that it has many different uses so we can reduce the number of physical toys in our home—for example color matching, type matching, counting, using tweezers/fine motor skills and coming up with different games/exercises.

awesome preschool-age toy and manipulative
I first saw this in a preschool classroom and knew I wanted to find one for my daughter. We gave it to her for her third birthday. She gets it out and plays with it everyday, and we were pleasantly surprised that her 6-year old sister likes to play with it too! They love the tweezers and to sort by color, by type or to just "serve" the fruits. With some assistance, it is also a great counting manipulative and has the versatility for the sorting and counting to grow in complexity throughout the preschool and kindergarten years. The tweezers are also a good fine motor-skill manipulative. The set is well made and sturdy. We keep it in the storage box, putting it away on the shelf after each use so that the fruits don't get mixed in with the other toys. This works to both keep the set intact and to make it a "special" toy that is well-looked after. While it costs a little more than some toys, I think it was worth the price for both its educational value and pure enjoyment as a toy.

Very good toy
I ordered this toy not being very familiar with Learning Resources products and I can say I'm impressed in the quality. The tongs are made of a very sturdy plastic and that's a plus because I was afraid of my kids breaking them or being very flimsy. The actual fruit which I also thought would be hollow plastic are not. They are solid, heavy and very realistic. Same with the container (pie), the cards are thick enough but these I do see getting ripped if you have kids who like to chew, bite or suck on things, they are glossy and the colors are real bright. I am still trying to find more creative ways for my kids to play with it other than using the cards which at some point do get boring for them. Fortunately, I paid $17 and some change when it was on sale here on Amazon, quite honestly even though the product is of very high quality I wouldn't have paid full price for it, as I said, it can be limited in the ways you play with it. If you're very creative and can give it a better use other than the cards supplied buy it for your kids but if your kids are not into toys unless they have lights and whistles this may not be too entertaining for them.

My son loves playing with this

My kids love this game, 3&4 and play with it everyday, as per its intention and as a broader toy in food preparation/picnics. It comes with a couple of different cardboards that fit under the pie tin that indicates the type of game to play (eg sort in colours, sort in types of fruit, sort by number of fruits). The one bug bear is that both of the tongs it comes with doesn't open very wide and while this makes it easier to pick up skinner fruit this makes it harder for the larger fruits. Would also be great if Learning Resources sell the fruit on its own as it is easy to lose some. Otherwise was surprised at how much of a hit this was.

Such a nice toy for children who love to sort or discover colors. The quality is so good, parts are weighted, and big enough not to be swallowed. Will definitely recommend and purchase again!
