Worth the time and money.
My smart home continues to grow with the introduction of smart TRVs my heating system. A total of 8 meross TRVs plus the hub obviously. All working well, but as you would expect, not a smooth journey.Stage 1: is the installation of the hub. This appears to only work with the meross app, I did try others, as to minimise the number of apps I have. The meross app works and once you get the hang of it, it works well. It also makes sense to have a dedicated app just for the heating. I will integrated the meross app with smartthings shortly.Alexa integration was another thing. For me didn't work great, so I've abandon that for the moment. Overall the installation of the hub and the app was easy, just follow the included manual. You will need a working 2.4GHz wireless network.Stage 2: the TRVsEach TRV was easier and quicker than the previous one, and as many have found the process can be challenging. So these are my notes. With these, every TRV installed smoothly. Read these before you start and refer to them while you follow the apps step by step instructions and they will pair.Steps for valve pairing (repeat for each TRV)The manual says install the valve before pairing, my experience suggests it is 100% easier working at your desk or table. Just check you have chosen the correct adapter for your radiators and perhaps do a dry run.Put in batteries 2x AA (LR-6), refit the cover and wait a few seconds. With the screen darkDisplay will show AF 0Click the <up arrow> twiceNB the first one wakes the displayThe second one will change the 0 to 1The valve will buzz 6 times - this is it moving the pin actuator up and down, it is attempting to detect the two extremes of the actuating pin on the radiator itself (more later)Display will then show wrong time and current room temp (which may be wrong too - it will sort itself out later)With the screen darkClick the power button twiceNB the first one wakes the displayThe second one will minimize the display to just the wrong time !On the hub click the button twiceLED flashes green quicklyOn the TRVEnsure the screen is dark - if not click the power button once to turn off.Press and hold <M> for 5 secondsScreen will show FFThen click the <up> button onceThere will be a small vertical bar moving left to right (this might disappear very quickly)STOP - seriously stop at the point ! Don't press anything.it is actually pairing at this pointThe valve will quickly return to the full display screenDon't panicThe app will be telling you its doing nothing - but it is !Still don't panicEventually the app will prompt you to name the valve. This may be quick or take a few momentsAll done, the time on valve will now be correct.Go and tinker with the valve settings from the app main screen. Click the TRV iconthe the 3 bars in the top righthand corner. Set desired temps etc.Leave the valve in the corner until it settle to room temp - will take 30mins or sothen edit the calibration setting in the app if needed.Stage 3 (repeat for each TRV)Remove old valve from radiator - this should just screw off.If required fit adaptor.Remove the batteries from the TRV, count to 10, then reinstall the batteries. This full retracts the pin actuator. The Screen should say AF0.Fit the TRV.Click the <up arrow> twiceNB the first one wakes the displayThe second one will change the 0 to 1 (AF1)The valve will buzz 6 times again, as it detects the pin extremes. All done.In use, remember in the TRV world, things go at a slow pace. When a TRV opens it can be a few moments before you feel the radiator beginning to warm up. When the TRV closes it could easily be 15+ mins before the radiator feels a little cooler. That and the fact, battery operated TRVs only communicate with the app every few minutes, can make everything feel sluggish. Patience is a virtue.Noise wise, you can certainly hear them, though after a while much less so. Clearly more noticeable in a quiet bedroom than a busy kitchen. They appear to be quieter on modern rads compared to my old simple panel ones. I have also found they get quieter over time, that might be me just getting used to them, but the household thinks the same.
