Jane Smith's review was completely accurate, but since I've seen a few bad reviews from cake decorators I thought I'd better add my voice. If you are a cake decorator, the Kopykake carousel is fantastic and will save you soooo much time and frustration. It is durable, strong and you can adjust the speed smoothly and easily. With a little practice your round cake side will be smooth and perfect [While the carousel is at an average speed, use a cake icer tip #789 and large bag, squirt on an even layer all over the cake, then use hot icing spatulas to smooth the icing over your cake instead of scraping it - you can use a tall pan with simmering water or a 30-cup coffee percolator to keep your blades extra hot. (just dry the blades off with a clean towel before smoothing your icing) - Sorry, I looked for a youtube video with this method and couldn't find one. Maybe I should just whip one out...yeah, I'm sure that's just as easy as pie!]. Your trimwork will look flawless, since all you do is lift your tip steadily up/down or forward/back - no more moving horizontally (which means: no more turning your cake or walking around your cake and losing "your groove") It does have an auto-pause when you press too hard on the cake side, but that is just a sign to me that my icing layer is not even. As for the easily removable top, I don't use it because I like being able to get as close to my cake as I can, especially for detail work. Put a circle of waxed paper under your cake when working with colorful icings and clean up is a breeze! Here is a cake I made - that would've turned out horrendous without the use of my Kopykake carousel!

Very disappointing speed and weak engine.

Motor not strong enough when I'm removing the extra frosting.The reverse switch is hard to push.The on/off switch is too small.I was hoping the turntable would go faster, the slowest speed is perfect.Lettering on base plate is in the way when you are holding the scraper against the cake,the raised lettering makes the blade jump.I took a light grade sanding paper and removed the raised lettering.I like using the turntable, just wish it was made better for the money I spent.I looked elsewhere after I rec'd the turntable to see if there was something better,the only thing I found was a pottery turntable but that was in the $400's, andI'm not willing to spend that much more.

The variable speed and reverse direction were features we were looking for and they are well worth the money. It's model performs great and the speed adjust is a must have feature. Haven't used much yet but am pleased with what I bought.

Works very well. The adjustable speed, as well as changing rotation direction is very handy for my application. A clever simple design to protect it from excessive torque which can damage the unit. I would have loved to see it equipped with a toggle switch which could allow the turn table do 180 degree cycles back and forth automatically.

It was by sheer luck that I ran across this absolute gem of a product. I was surfing the internet for a rotating display base for videographing original fine art pieces, and as I'd feared, everything listed as a bona fide "rotating display" base was overpriced and technically too limited. So, when I lucked onto the Kopykake, I my heart skipped a beat: rotation speed control from 1RPM to 9 RPM, in either direction, high technical quality, and an unbeatable price. I jumped on it.In a nutshell, it's The Dream Machine. The variable either-direction speed is controlled by a smooth-turning, dead silent knob, and the speed changes are superbly smooth. Rotation direction change is done with a rocker switch, and gently used, it's also dead silent, and the rotation change is superbly smooth. But what really amazed me is that the device's turntable drive system is specifically designed to allow you to totally safely slow down the presently set rotation speed, just like putting some finger drag on an old vinyl record turntable. I use a cotton swab instead of my fingertip, out-of-frame, which allows perfectly smooth, totally controllable and dramatically cued slow-downs- and when I take away the cotton swab drag, the turntable smoothly ramps back up, returning to its presently set rotational speed.Summing up, for my needs, this product is solid gold.

This Electric Turntable is OK. As a lifelong Cake Decorator, I have used more durable and reliable electric turntables in the past. I am not fond of the plastic construction and the red, push-button, switch is un-predictable. The top comes off for easy cleaning, however, it does not re-attach easily... adding some frustration. Overall, it does get the job done, and I am curious to see how long it lasts. Kopykake is generally a dependable brand.

It didn't turn properly, it said that it would hold a 100 lb. cake and wobbled with a 15 lb. cake. It was fixed by my husband and brother-in-law with Loc-tite. I absolutely don't reccomend this product. More importantly, it was a gift for my sister-in-law. I'm very disappointed.
