Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer

Having previously tried several ear and forehead thermometers, I had concluded that they were just annoying to use and/or hopelessly inaccurate. Based on some general research, as well as other reviews I decided to give this one a try. I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use - hold it against the center of the forehead, press the button until it beeps and slide gently to the left (or right, I guess) over to the temple. It'll beep a few more times, but is ready to read. I checked it against normal temps and also compared it with some known accurate traditional methods in fever situations; I conclude that it's one of the most accurate thermometers I've owned. The only caveat I would mention is that if the place it's stored is on the chilly side, the readings seem to be more accurate if I take a minute or two to warm it up under a shirt to point where it no longer feels cold to the touch. Not sure why that is, but for me it produced the best results. Overall, highly recommended.

our youngest is 22, non verbal autistic in diapers, so a regular glass thermometer in the mouth or in the back is a no go for safety reasons. this thermometer fits the need perfectly, it’s quick accurate, and easy to use, pop the cap, push a button and swipe it across the forehead, done. no stress, no danger, and a good value for the money in my book.

Would have been 5 stars if the battery compartment cover could be easily - or even not so easily - removed. I can't believe this issue isn't reflected in the reviews to a greater extent but that likely is due to the battery being already installed. I needed a small screw driver to deflect the locking tab and the cover was still somewhat difficult to remove. And this wasn't a one-off - I sent the first one back and this was a replacement. And I decided I would remove the cover one way or another with this one. Again, the device looks to be a quality product and the readings are repeatable. I'll update my review if needed.

Removing back has been difficult, not sure how to change batteries when need to. Very accurate temperature reading!
