Professional Wireless MIDI with the Yamaha MDBT01 Adapter
The Yamaha MDBT01 is a sleek, compact MIDI to Bluetooth adapter that offers wireless freedom without sacrificing sound quality or reliability. Its bright LED indicators make it easy to monitor connection status, even in low-light environments like studios or stages. The adapter delivers excellent MIDI signal integrity with minimal latency, ensuring your playing stays tight and responsive. Whether you’re controlling synths, triggering samples, or syncing with your DAW, the sound quality remains clear with no noticeable degradation or added noise. Thanks to its solid design, the MDBT01 operates silently—there’s no fan or mechanical noise to interfere with your recordings or performances. Setup is simple: plug it into your MIDI device, pair with Bluetooth-compatible gear, and enjoy a stable connection even in crowded wireless spaces. I take this everywhere when travelling. When I was playing in churches, I would take this with me just in case the church had a digital piano and I wanted to use my iPad or laptop sounds. Compact and durable, this adapter is perfect for musicians and producers who want a reliable, noise-free wireless MIDI solution. The Yamaha MDBT01 is a smart, value-packed choice for anyone looking to cut the cords and maintain professional-grade sound quality.

Works very well with QRS PNO3
I specifically purchased this in order to connect my QRS PNO3 player piano system with PianoStream. The instructions in the box are very minimal, but most musicians purchasing this will already have a good idea what they need it for and how to use it. Yamaha does have an app for this and it is necessary to download the app and update the firmware. The Yamaha app also allows this to be renamed from MD-BT01 to something else, for anyone who wants to rename this. Once that is done, I found this easy to connect with my iOS device, and the Bluetooth connection is strong. I plugged this into my QRS system, which is mounted under the cast iron plate and soundboard of my piano, and the connection remains good while I am sitting in the next room about 35 feet away, and I can operate the system perfectly with my tablet at this distance. Note that the connection has to be enabled in the QRS app or QRS WiFi interface, which I do under System Setup>Performance Setup>Routing & Delay Settings>MIDI Options>Piano Out. Then find the button “5-Pin MIDI in to PWM” and switch it on to green. Then the system works. Not very intuitive, but I worked this out over about 30 minutes and now it works flawlessly. Changing other MIDI settings in the QRS interface makes the system perform wonky. Given the high price of musical instruments and player piano system, the price of this Yamaha MD-BT01 device is an incredible bargain for the quality of the product and for what it does. This Yamaha MD-BT01 device is the perfect missing link that I needed to greatly expand the functionality of my player piano system. Normally I would take off one star for the low quality instructions in the box, but this works so well and it is so useful that it is still a 5-star product.

Plug and play works great
This adapter works like a charm. I’ve used it on 3 different keyboards with no problem. Just plug it in and connect. There is a red LED in on one connector that lights when you’ve correctly plugged the in/out direction. I use this with my iPad and Sunday Sounds app

Works great with older Clavinova CLP-220
I have an older Clavinova model CLP-220 which has midi in and out but not bluetooth. I wanted to use a teach yourself piano app (Skoove) off of my ipad. Skoove can use your iPad’s microphone provided that the room is relatively quiet. If there’s a lot of background noise you have to raise the Clavinova’s volume A LOT for the iPad microphone to pick it up correctly. I needed to play quietly enough not to disturb others. This product works great. I plugged it into the Clavinova. I downloaded and opened the free app Smart Pianist to enable the midi to connect to the iPad, then Skoove worked just fine. The only thing to be aware of is that when the program asks you if you want to listen to headphones or the piano-it’s talking about the iPad’s headphones. If you want to use the headphones you have plugged into your Clavinova you must choose the piano. Clarification the Smart Pianist program supports the midi connection and nothing more for this model. Yamaha has a list of what clavinovas can use the entire Smart Pianist program and the CLP-220 is not on the list, but for midi access it works.

Great, reliable, works with ios and Android BT 4.0
Works well if you midi interface or synth output follows proper midi spec and provides the necessary 5v power the device requires... Tested well with ipads, iphones, android 12 devices, and Access Virus B Desktop, Dave Smith Evolver, Roland Sonic Cell and SD-50 sound modules, NI Maschine MK2, and Akai MPK249 Hardware. Did not work with Rockband Keytar, Arturia keyLab, or Maudio Key station 61 es.

Looking for a sufficiently advanced technology indistinguishable from magic? Get one of these to connect any MIDI keyboard with standard 5-pin ports to your iPad. Any app capable of using Bluetooth MIDI will be seamlessly joined to your device within GarageBand, AUM, Camelot, Audiobus and more. Latency is so low it's magic. Like the Bluetooth link between a video game controller and the console, it's solid as a rock. Ultimately, it's the best addition to my rig in a long time.

When I tried to pair MD-BT01 with my iPhone/iPad, the device wouldn't show in the Bluetooth Settings. I searched for a solution to the problem and Yamaha came up with the following answer below. I had to install the free VISUAL PERFORMER app for iOS and paired MD-BT01 from the app. Now I'm able to play all my midi collections from a midi player using MD-BT01 wireless connection. ______________________________ This is normal. The Bluetooth settings in the Settings app only show Bluetooth devices that need to sync with the iOS device. While Bluetooth must be turned on in the Settings app, Bluetooth MIDI devices, such as the MD-BT01 and the UD-BT01, will only show up in apps compatible with Bluetooth MIDI. Use the Visual Performer app found here as an example. 1) Turn Bluetooth on in the iOS Settings app. 2) Open the Visual Performer app. 3) Touch the gear icon in the lower right corner. 4) Touch Bluetooth MIDI Device. 5) Touch the Bluetooth device to connect. 6) When “Connected” is displayed, the app can now be used with the device. NOTE: Once the Bluetooth MIDI connection has been established in the Visual Performer app it will also be available to other apps on the same iPad or iPhone.

While the dongle connects easily and there is no perceptible lag, there is a significant volume loss compared to wired MIDI cable arrangement. Also, when you increase the volume to compensate the loss there is hisss sound in the background
