Manfrotto XPRO Ball Head with 200PL Quick Release Plate, High Precision, Compatible with Photography Equipment, for Camera Tripod, for Content Creation

The tilting mount that came with my Manfrotto 560B-1 monopod would have been fine for 99.9% of shutterbugs, but every since I started using a ball mount for sports shooting with my tripod, I just couldn't do without that multiple-axis freedom of motion once I took ownership of a nice monopod. THIS was the solution. It's big, stout, and confidence-inspiring for sure. Yes, it looks almost too large when fitted to the end of a monopod, but it firmly holds any gear I latch onto it without fear of inadvertent movement when locked down. Also, when I rotate the knob to loosen it, this finely crafted item quickly allows the multiple-axis positioning I desire. One bonus item I did not discern from the item description is the extra, small knob with detents that adds a small amount of user-selected drag to the mount. It acts almost like an all-axis fluid mount, and maintains this drag (or friction) adjustment between securing the ball or releasing it. I am getting another one of these to replace the smaller stock ball mount on my Manfrotto Befree travel tripod. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ball mount that originally came with it. In fact, that ball mount on the Befree is what got me into really liking how Manfrotto manufactures its ball mounts. It's just that the MHXPRO-BHQ2 XPRO (man, that's a long name) ball mount is that good for my purposes. One of these days I may purchase a newer, lighter weight combination in terms of lenses and camera body, but for now this Manfrotto mount is allowing me to continue using my heavier, older gear while being able to freely point and at the same time gain the stability (anti-shake) benefits that a monopod can provide. By the way, the Manfrotto 200PL plate that comes with this is the genuine Manfrotto article, and locks in securely. There are a lot of red chinese copies polluting the marketplace that look like a real Manfrotto 200PL plate, but I can tell you from personal experience that the red chinese copies generally have dimensional variances and do not lock in as securely as the genuine Manfrotto article. Your gear is too costly to risk by using a reverse-engineered red chinese pot metal item. I use this as a ball head on my Fornax Lightrack II for astrophotography on a Slik Pro 700 DX tripod. I most often use a 400mm f/5.6L, and less frequently a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, on a 5D Mark IV. Astrophotography is an an application that will make every last optical and mechanical deficiency in your equipment painfully evident to you. For a time, I used the Slik version, since I figured they make a good tripod, so the ball head should be good as well. What I found was that several of my exposures were affected by slippage - in most other forms of photography this would be hard to notice since it happens slowly and is slight, so quite possibly you will miss it between exposures. But when you want your stars to be round and sharp over minutes of tracking, you'll notice this rather easily. The move to this has been a significant upgrade and has gotten rid of all the slippage issues. I was initially worried before I purchased this that the knobs would interfere with the body of the tracker, but this has not been the case. Everything about this screams solidity. The quick release plate once tightened on to the lens is a very solid connection. Knob rotation and panning of the head is smooth. Most importantly, everything is secure - once you tighten the knobs, nothing moves, no matter the position or orientation. The fact that the plate is rectangular versus circular gives less opportunity for slip. That's exactly what I wanted, and exactly what I got. Objects at zenith are a bit hard to aim at, but that's something that comes with the application and not a fault of this ball head. The only "negative", and I use quotes advisedly, is that the quick release plate goes in only one way and can initially be a bit hard to mount especially in the dark. But once you get used to it, you'll find it works just fine. If your application is more casual photography, and can afford a few flaws in your shots from time to time, you'll probably save quite a bit by going to something cheaper. If you need something that is absolutely reliable, purchasing this or something like this sooner rather than later will save you a lot of frustration.

As with all Manfrotto products, well made and functional, have never had an issue with anything they make.

Nice but somewhat heavy if you use it for traveling or hiking. This thing is huge in size, but very sturdy if that's what you looking for. Overall, I am please with the quality and solid build of BHQ2 XPRO ball head from Manfrotto. If there is something to improve, that would be reduce the weight while maintaining ball size of this product. Btw, manufacturing should mark the small triangle point with a hi-lite paint, so people could see and set better when rotating ball head. However, this is a minor issue. This is a great ball head for my pro-level tripot. I am taking one star off simply of personal belief that with price paid it should come with one extra plate(very good one).

So far so good. This unit replaced my pistol grip head I used for over 15 years which supported my 6x6 and 6x7 medium format cameras. With these cameras there wasn't much need to lay the camera 90 degrees to the left for portrait shots. On the old head, my DSLR Nikon cameras with grips drifted south too much for my use, thus the purchase of the new head. Holds my D700 w/grip and 28-70 2.8 afs rock solid at 90 deg. (5 1/2 #) Haven't added a hot shoe flash for I usually remote trigger anyway. Mounted atop a good set of tripod legs, the XPRO should do just fine for my use. Takes a little getting used to coming from a one handed head. Drag set is easy and the resistance is smooth. The pan swing is smooth also. Very little torque needed on the lever for solid lockdown. Makes squaring up the viewfinder for interior and architectural shots easy vs going to geared head. ( which I don't have)

J'étais à la recherche d'une rotule haut de gamme pour remplacer un modèle de base qui était installé d'origine sur mon trépied car elle ne supportait pas le poids de mon matériel (Pentax K5 + grip + Sigma 18-35 ART). Cette rotule était une des plus recommandée dans les divers essais que j'ai lu et pour cause: faciliter d'utilisation, stable, grandes possibilités de réglages. C'est un must ! Seuls points qui peuvent gêner: la taille (dans mon cas, je dois l'enlever du trépied pour pouvoir ranger celui-ci dans son sac de transport), le poids car oui, elle est assez lourde. Je la recommande vivement à toute personne qui souhaite une rotule haut de gamme et qui est réellement solide à l'usage.

This is an excellent head that goes well with my Manfrotto X55 tripod. It handles my D750 with the 24-70 lens admirably. I guess it can take a lot more. It’s quite sturdy, smooth, easy to use and feels rock solid.

Lange Zeit hat mich mein 496RC2 Kugelkopf auf meinen Fototouren begleitet. Er ist auf meinem Manfrotto 190XDB Aluminium Stativ montiert und war mit mir in vielen Ecken der Welt unterwegs. Das 190XDB Stativ ist relativ kompakt und leicht (52cm, ca. 1,5kg, Arbeitshöhe ohne Mittelsäule ca. 120cm), und der 496RC2 hat super auf dieses Stativ gepasst. Allerdings ist meine Art der Fotografie immer aufwendiger geworden, die Ausrüstung immer aufwendiger, größer und schwerer, und meine Ansprüche immer höher. Also musste ein neues, stabiles Stativ mit einem starken Kugelkopf her. Beim Stativ habe ich mich für ein Manfrotto 055cxpro3 Carbon Stativ entschieden, der Kugelkopf ist der oben genannte MHXPRO-BHQ2 geworden. Ich habe mich auch dieses Mal wieder bewusst gegen Arca System entschieden. Dennoch nutze ich bei manchem Zubehör auch Arca System, geht aber auch mit den PL200 Schnellwechselplatten wunderbar. Außerdem geht es mit den PL200 Schnellwechseplatten deutlich schneller und mMn. sicherer. Dieser Kugelkopf nutzt so wie meine anderen Stative die kleine und handliche PL200 Schnellwechselplatte. Das war mir wichtig, damit die Kompatibilität weiterhin besteht und ich nicht dauernd zwischen verschiedenen Platte n wechseln muss. Dieser Kugelkopf ist deutlich massiver und hochwertiger gebaut als der 496RC2 Kugelkopf. Er besitzt im Gegensatz zum 496RC2 eine individuell einstellbare und rotierende Panoramaachse. Die Verstellung und Handhabung ist angenehm, es ruckelt nix. Der Kugeldurchmesser ggü. 496RC2 ist deutlich größer (siehe Bild). Alles in allem ist es ein sehr solider, stylischer Kugelkopf, mit dem das Fotografieren einfach nur Spaß macht. Die Qualität ist typisch Manfrotto - sehr fein und hochwertig. Ich kann diesen Kugelkopf uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Sehr guter Job, Manfrottto!

Na mijn eigen statiefkop te hebben gesloopt en diverse andere te hebben uitgeprobeerd, heb ik besloten meer geld uit te geven en deze aan te schaffen. Wat een verschil! Hij is heel stevig (en zwaar!) en blijft prima op zijn plek met mijn toch wel wat zwaardere fullframe camera en objectief.

Excelente calidad, puede rotar suavemente para fotografía panorámica, el ajuste de fricción de la bola es prácticamente micrométrico, lo cuál permite un ajuste y suave y preciso, mucho más fácil que con un cabezal de tres ejes que tengo de la misma marca, más ligero y estorba menos, lo cual lo hace portátil. Definitivamente se convierte en mi cabezal favorito. Muy recomendable, vale su precio.
