Carter & Son Toolworks 5/8" Bowl Gouge

Expensive, but worth it. I bought this to replace the pathetic bowl gouge in my starter set. It has stayed sharp after several uses. The handle is very long, but I find myself not only getting use to it, but wishing that all my turning tools had handles this long. It feels heavy at first, but again, you get used to it fast.I went from having painful and grievous experiences turning bowls, to feeling like a pro. I didn't realize just how much my starter bowl gouge was the root of my hands hurting/bruising. The vibrations were drastically reduced by this tool. I can't wait to purchase the other Carter and son's turning tools.

Excellent piece of equipment. Like the removable handle. Makes it easier to sharpen. I’m just a private individual and this was well worth the price.

I do not turn, but based on other reviews here I purchased this as a gift. The recipient has not only turned a bowl containing a natural, irregular hole in the bottom successfully, but is now searching the woods for burls and spalted wood. Based on his renewed enthusiasm for woodturning and the near-perfect bowl-with-a-hole, I pronounce this gouge the perfect woodturner gift, well worth the price.

Incredible tool. This tool is everything you could want in a high quality bowl gouge. I will be purchasing more in other sizes.

This is by far one of the nicest tools I have ever seen and used, super sharp edge right out of the box and great balance.I was hesitant to use it because it looks like a piece of art all by itself i just wanted to put it on a shelf and admire it.Seriously though I truly appreciate good craftsmanship and my hat goes off to Carter and Son, Keep up the good work .

Better than I expected! Initially I was concerned about the aluminum handle and balance but it is perfect! Very sharp pot of the box, easy to use, and cuts great! Fit and finish are spot on! Perfect tool!
