Teacher- Approved! - I bought Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon for one of my first grade students, and it’s always a favorite. The message about confidence and being yourself really connects with kids, and the illustrations keep them engaged. A wonderful addition to any classroom or child’s library! Review: Molly Lou Melon - A+ Role Model - I bought this book years ago for my second grade classroom and it remains one of my favorites - which is saying something because elementary teachers read a LOT of children’s books and go through a lot of favorites! Now I’m looking ant buying another copy for my nephew! The book is just that good. The illustrations are captivating (and beautiful), the writing is great, and the MESSAGE is fantastic! I can only hope to foster the kind of confidence and self love in my nephew that Molly Lou Melon’s grandma nurtured in her.

Embrace Your Uniqueness
In "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon," Patty Lovell presents a heartwarming tale of self-acceptance and resilience through the charming character of Molly Lou Melon. Despite her short stature, clumsiness, and distinctive features—like her buck teeth and a voice reminiscent of a bullfrog—Molly Lou embraces her individuality with pride, thanks to the encouraging words of her grandmother. Her mantra to “walk proud, smile big, and sing loud” sets the tone for her adventure as she transitions to a new school. On her first day, Molly Lou encounters a relentless bully, but instead of shrinking under the pressure, she embodies the confidence instilled in her by her grandmother. With her unique approach, Molly Lou teaches not only her classmates but also readers about the power of self-acceptance and the importance of standing tall in the face of adversity. Lovell's playful text, paired with David Catrow’s vibrant and whimsical illustrations, creates a delightful reading experience that resonates with children and adults alike. "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon" is an inspiring story that encourages readers to embrace their quirks and stand up against negativity. It’s a celebration of authenticity and the strength that comes from being unapologetically oneself, making it a perfect addition to any child's library. Molly Lou reminds us all that confidence shines brightly from within, no matter our differences!

Highly recommend!
Really fun book with a great message that kids easily understand. The illustrations and storyline are laugh out loud funny and make this enjoyable to read, even when requested again and again. (As it will be!) This book teaches kids how to deal with bullying in a smart way, and it was very helpful for my son who was complaining about being teased.

Terrific read-a-loud, bedtime & gift book
Even if you get your copy from the libarry - you won't want to take it back! Both boys and girls are captivated by the charming story and pictures. I invited my daughters little girl friends (ages range from 4 to almost 7yrs) for an impromptu 'tea' and story time and chose this book to share. I can't think of a better fun time filled with strong, positive values within a hilarious story. I am sure the neighbors must have thought we had rented a clown for the day because the laughter and fun amongst the kids was so loud and so frequent. I wish one could buy posters of these great illustrations along with the highlight quotes because they are so terrific that one wants to surround one's children with these positive messages. The illustrations are so beautiful that one wants to custom frame them. Great read-a-loud story which kids relate to (both boys and girls) and also the kind of gift book you want to buy a stack of hardcover copies of and save for all those special 4 to 7 yr old birthdays coming up this year. For tired, busy parents who prioritize reading despite their busy day, you will find that this story, along with "Hip Hip Hooray for Annie McRae" and "Ordinary Mary's Extra-Ordinary Day" & "Blue Ribbon Day" are become your own firm favorites and re-charge your own batteries while you read. -Of these, "Stand Tall..." and "Hip Hip Hooray for Annie McRae" are the funniest. For more laughs for this age group also buy "Dish Ran Away with the Spoon" by Stevens-Crummel.

Little girl, big spirit.
This book is great. The subject is a little girl with several physical "shortcomings" (she's short, has buck teeth, etc) who gets made fun of by one particular boy at a new school, and how she remains unwavering and confident through it. She doesn't ignore it (I'm not comfortable with teaching a kid to ignore teasing or bullying cuz you're essentially telling them to put up with abuse) and she doesn't fight back either (i'm not quite comfortable with teaching a kid to fight back either because reacting in a big way or engaging can sometimes make you a bigger and more fun teasing target)...instead she handles it in a way that is a perfect combination. Book ends well with two kids becoming friends. I wouldn't read this book to a kid who is so young that s/he has never been exposed to teasing and such, because I don't know that you'd want to introduce that fact of life to them before you had to. But my daughter is 3.5 and in full time preschool and is starting to experience teasing first hand and second hand, so this book was useful....I saw that she connected and it resonated.

A lovely story about growing up as a little girl who has been taught by her grandma to have self confidence and self esteem, no matter what other children say.

I bought this book for my little one (on my own dime) and even I fell in love with it. it is very motivational and helps in developing positive self-esteem in children. I have often used this book as a reference in teaching my little one about believing in themself and accepting perceived flaws for their beauty. I would def. recommend this book. PS. this post is not sponsored and solely my view of the book.
