Beware the order of your installation drive
First of all thanks to all the other reviewers with their helpfull information. This is a great product overall for an affordable price. The low light performance is incredible good.I had no real problem with the installation (w98) other than produced by myself I guess. If you have a DVD and a CD-ROM Drive in your PC and you install from drive E: (as I did because of my inserted Half-Life CD in DVD D: Drive) you get a problem after the pre-installation routine is finished and tries to install the program files - starts searching first on the D: Drive (my Half-Life installation started again and the PC after abortion ran into some trouble with blue screens :-(So don't be lazy and eject the D: Drive or use the D Drive for your installation. This seems to be a general problem and not related to 3COM (more my own fault - I should have known better since I started in the MS-DOS World over a decade ago - right order of drives and so on ....).Hope, this helps.

Obsolete
Loved the Webcam for the first year until I upgraded my PC to Windows XP. 3COM did not support this OS and the product was useless. Paid $200.00 for one years use. Shame on you 3COM!

Old product
Very high level of noise three pixels on all the time. Otherwise it's about as good as a low quality surveillance cam. I don't know what the other reviewers are used to but they need to look around. For the price it's OK in good light forget it when the light begins to fade. The software is somewhat deficient too. when I tried to do a video capture it froze up.I would not recommend this to anyone

3Com 00371800 HomeConnect PC Digital Camera
"Great camera. But it is made for Widows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 2000. The furnished drivers are for those systems only, and will not work with later operating systems. Also, I cannot locate any Vista or Win7 drivers for the camera. Too bad !The Mac does not even recognize that the camera is connected.

Wow--I got several. But it works only with older operating systems.
This is one of the greatest USB web cameras ever produced. The images are fine, the performance at low light is amazing. But it is not supported for modern Windows versions. You can make it work with WinXP and you can search for a driver for Vista. That is it for Windows. There is a Linux driver available. It is a shame that the company went on to other things and sold their tech to others. The new owners have not bothered to make better drivers.

I own three and run them on Win2K and XP
Although it says that the camera is not Windows certified when it is being stalled, I have no problem whatsoever. I got the latest driver from vividcommunications.com.I have no idea why some people report low-light problem or color problems but this camera is the best that I've used in term of clarity and low-light capability. I think once you figure out how to set this camera up, you'd enjoy this camera. With interchangable lenses, the camera can cover a wide range of angles. As for mounting, I went to Best Buy and got a pair of speaker wall mounts for about $$, which provides all the adjustment angles you'd need. You only need one mount for each camera but have to buy them in pairs, as they are made for speakers.Good luck to those who are getting a webcam. If you need more info on the mount, just contact me.
