Most cost-effective, simple and cheap-to-operate large area humidifier out there
We have been using this now for four years, all winter long. It operates for hours on end in the winter time. It is very simple to use, easy to operate, and can humidify large areas. Our total upstairs area that we use it in is probably around 600-700 sq ft, a kitchen and living room with a fireplace. If you're doing much more than that, I'd suggest getting another one for other rooms. We use a filter all winter long. We run it non-stop for two weeks, then put it in the bathtub, rinse it out and clean it thoroughly. We spritz a little hydrogen peroxide bleach across the filter, let it set for a few min, then rinse that off good and crank it up again. Sometimes if we have a few days in a row where the humidity is up we'll allow the paper filter to dry out...put it in an empty tank, put a folded up piece of paper towel under the water level rod and turn it on. When you're running it on low it is very quiet...however, on very dry days you'll probably have to run it on medium or high to keep the humidity up. Then it's not so quiet, but it's the noise a fan makes. No regrets at all buying it, we'll get another one when this one finally packs it in.A few other notes:1) buy the recommended filters. Yes, they might be a little more, but they work well and if you're replacing them once a season not a big deal2) make sure you clean it out at least every two weeks, and do NOT let it just sit with water in it...either drain it or run it. We do not put any chemicals or vinegar in the water, but we just keep it out of the way where it can't get junk in it and clean it on schedule.3) make sure when you clean it you do use soap and warm water, and something (safe) to clean the filter. Be careful with the filter, as when it's wet you can damage it and have to use another one.4) I noticed several people commented on shoddy quality. It's all plastic except for the fan motor...but you get it for a bit over $110. We've had no mechanical or electrical problems with it, and its done the job we wanted it for and done it well.

Use a bacteriostat! And, this will be your #1 humidifier.
My likes and dislikes are pretty simple.Likes- Very large capacity for it's size and cost. I don't know why other humidifiers are so small in capacity while being larger in size. Even AirCare has larger space humidifiers but less water capacity. Just odd.- Super easy to fill and use.- Does work in large spaces but needed 2 for a large 4000sqft home.- Wick easily available to purchase, and super easy to switch out. I've had other humidifiers that the wicks are impossible to find, and even more so to switch out.- Also very easy to clean as it disassembles leaving simple parts to wash.- Auto shut off when empty, and informative display.- Fan is before the humidity wick, so it will have a much longer life. Putting the fan motor after the wick seems dumb to me as that allows the wet air to collect in the electric motor both increasing mold possibilities and making cleaning harder. This does NOT do that, thank goodness.- large water fill area.Cons- Yep, it's loud on all but lowest setting for fan.- Fan makes odd buzzing on 2nd setting.- Only 3 fan settings, while many others have up to 6 or 8.- Can't fill when running, as it fills water into the air exit so that might blow water out as you try to put it in. But then again it is a large opening, so give and take on this one I guess.- It's kind of ugly. AirCare makes a very good looking pedestal version but it's 1/2 the water capacity and the motor/fan is after the wick on air flow making more likely to be troublesome. I'd like to see them redesign this one to be better looking, like the pedestal model with a usable table top.I'm here today to buy another one of these, to add to a larger home we just moved into. Our current unit is about 5 years old and still going strong so these appear to have a very long life. Plus getting wicks is so easy, we've really enjoyed have this humidifier and using it.

Works as advertised, a few minor glitches
Does the job. Has the capacity to keep the humidity up in the whole house when running at full speed. The humidistat works correctly, and the unit will cycle on and off to maintain the humidity where you set it. The fan sound is not quiet on speeds 2 or 3, but is actually very pleasant "white noise" so this is a plus, not a minus.Construction seems really fragile. The support piece for the float switch was defective (molded incorrectly.) I made an easy temp fix, and am ordering a replacement piece. Today I thought the motor was failing, as it the unit would only operate on speed 2. However, after I rebooted the unit (unplugged it, waited a few seconds, then plugged it back in) the motor works correctly again.
