It work like... thing 30 times cheaper =)
Edison itself is kind of cumbersome platform with software glitches and issues during firmware update. Still quite unstable.Arduino breakboard makes a magic - it transforms your 80+ bucks to 3 bucks Arduino Uno board =)))Not a feeling you want to experience, right? =)But the breakboard itself is well design and manufactured, small plastic stands not to scratch you desk supplied, no issues with Arduino IDEIf you want arduino but with SSH console over wi-fi and linux - it could be your choice.But until Intel provides real scenarios for Edison power utilization - just a buggy toy

Would have been nice for half the price
I am familiar with Arduino, so I bought this Kit to experiment with, I was not too impressed, I think it could work well for some applications, but not me, the board is big - bigger than the Uno (Please note that I am reviewing the Arduino kit, not the Edison computer itself) it's also a lot more expensive, it is 100% compatible with Arduino Uno, same code, same inputs and outputs. I was able to port an existing project from Uno to Edison in seconds. This board has a lot of memory and storage(1GB), something that Arduino doesn't provide (it has 0.02MB of memory only) it's also faster, and it has build in WiFi and Bluetooth, both great to have, but for the price difference I decided to just buy WiFi and Bluetooth modules. The kit doesn't come with an external power source, you can evaluate it using USB as power source though. Also, please note that this board is not supported on CodeBender.cc as of the time of writing this review.Overall I found the board to be too much for my project and most of the projects I have come across.

If you are looking at this review, you probably know what you are looking for.Note this kit does not come with microUSB cable or power adapter. Be sure to prepare those. You need 2 USB cables to power it or a wall adapter.

Doesn't work. Drivers doesn't work.
Very disappointed. No power cord. After struggle to find the proper power cord to power the board, the drivers doesn't work and board keeps failing. No proper documentation to set this up. Wasted too much time on Intel site and other places to try to get the drivers and the board to work but no luck. So basically this end being a rip off.

Dont buy it! Great specs, terrible implementation, terrible software.
This is not a board for anyone to use for a serious project. First, it can ONLY connect to networks which use a 5 or 13 character password. It cannot be connected to a WEP networks, or many other networks without quite a bit of command line editing of configuration files through a serial terminal. This has been a known problem since the board first came out and Intel cant spend the 10 minutes it would take to fix this issue. Second, Intel offers terrible support consisting only of a confusing mess of discussion boards with a broken registration system. Third, it takes forever to download software and install it, and the software download page is in Chinese and has to be translated. An Arduino YUN, Beagle Bone or any other board is better choice than this one. It might be useful if you are making a single project, but why waste time on this thing when there are so many other boards which actually work out of the box.

Good kit for Internet of Things (IoT) design projects
Get it while it lasts! I heard Intel was discontinuing its Edison products, so I got while it was still available. Oh, even though it is discontinued, it is still one of the better (more memory, features) electronic design kit for IoT (Internet of Things).This version of the Edison board is compatible with Arduino connectors and will fit Arduino add-on boards.

Defect board (could not powered by USB port)
I got mine for Amazon. By playing it I found it is failed for getting the power from a computer host USB port (it works only using the external power supply). I contact the Intel tech support. At first they denied there is a problem for the board since it works with external power supply. They blamed the computers for the problem.I did not agree with them because I tested it on multiple computers. I observed that the board draws about 70 mA current from the OTG USB port when it starts. Few seconds later (I think after the kernel started) it tried to draw more current (about 150 mA) from the USB port and it fails at this moment. I suspected the board could not handle the power request correctly (such as it did not putting the max power request correctly in the USB configuration descriptor). After further investigation they said it is the Load Switch FDC6331L chip damaged. However, it already passed the Amazon return/exchange time period. I asked Intel to exchange the board for me but they insist that I have to ship the board back to Intel (on my own cost) before they can send a replacement to me, to which I did not agree. It is not right for a customer bear more burden on the defect product.I like the product when it is powered by the external power supply (5 stars). However, I don't like Intel's support (one star). So I gave the ranking in the middle.If you could not get board powered by OTG USB port you should tell the Intel to check if the Load Switch FDC6331L chip damaged. I hope this provide the help to you.
