The ultimate drum machine
A must have for any level producer. I mainly use this to make hip hop beats but can range to other genres. Almost new (minus the dirt mark on the knob but no biggie) downloaded a few packages from Akai’s website and plugged it in my 2011 MacBook Pro. Works as described.

Portable, light weight and beautiful.
I love this mpc. I've never owned another one but can say the workflow is great because you can do everything on the hardware that you can on the software. This is great because once you familiarize yourself with it making music is fast. The price is great for the value you get. It's nice not needing to worry about a power adapter as well.

Excellent Tool
It is a beautiful tool but I think it's a bit Advanced for me I was looking for a drum machine / sampler but this is a step beyond that and should really be good for advanced users

Initial setup can be confusing, but stick with it!
When you register the device with the company, the page with software downloads is confusing. There is a download for the MPC 1.9 software and below that a spot on the page to pay them to buy the MPC 2.0 software. I initially thought that this meant that I got burned and would have to pay to upgrade. But **below that** there is a download and key for the 2.5 MPC software that works just fine, and has a button to get a serial number. They really need to clean up the downloads page, it will save them time from users hitting up technical support! (Minus one star for confusing download page!)Once it is finally installed, it works like a charm. I managed to bang out a couple beats in just a few minutes after that. I am looking forward to more and will update after I get more experience.

My Grandson requested this and is very pleased
I did not know even know what this piece of equipment was for, but I bought it at the request of my grandson. He likes:1. It is easy to use. (Disclaimer: He is 17 and pretty tech-savvy.)2. It produces clear videos. My grandson sent me a short sample two days after he received this as a gift.

Akai MPC Studio Black
I'm what you would call an Old School DJ/Musician, and have never used the Akai MPC brand. So I'm still getting used to all the different functions of the MPC Studio Black. Earlier in my days of music production I used equipment such as the DR5, which is similar, but works more like the MPC Live which has all the sounds already incorporated into the machine. Though I've had the Studio Black as long as I have, I'm still working to learn the full use of it. And with all the sound, (7gigs), where do you start....Oh my.

Not everything I expected
I was really excited to get my MPC Studio a month ago, however I haven't been able to use it yet. For anyone who hasn't used this before, the MPC isn't a product that you can just unbox and start using right away if you're an amateur music producer like me. First of all, there's a ton of software to download to your computer before you can start using the device. There are about 4 large size files that contain the software and drum beats, etc., that you have to download first. For some reason, my computer will not download the entirety of the files. It'll make it through about 70 percent of the downloads and then error out. I figured maybe it's my computer that is not fully capable of handling the MPC files. Needless to say, if you can't download all the functionality for the device, you basically can't use it. So it's been sitting on my shelf here since Christmas until I can figure out what to do, maybe I can hit some message boards to find out how to troubleshoot this, but I just haven't gotten that far yet. This was just supposed to be a new hobby in my spare time but so far all I have done is read about how great this product is. I've watched YouTube videos which show me the potential of the product, but it won't be easy to do on my own.I tried contacting the help line that they provide in the box but can reach a real person and nobody has responded to an email that I also reached out to the Akai company (in Rhode Island).
