It's a great outlet for kids to express their creativity—even ones who may be shy about it as it gives enough direction to spark the imagination, but makes many of the projects super interesting, silly, and/or fun. The directions are in a simple in a non-intrusive font—leaving space for the drawings. The paper is nice, smooth, and thick. Every other page is split diagonally (two exercises for two smaller drawings) and the opposing pages are full-sized (for bigger drawings in more detail). This is nice, because a young person can choose to do smaller drawings/sketches if they are in a hurry or take their time on a small masterpiece. *I* was really tempted to keep it for me (I'm an artist), but I bought it for my homeschooled 3rd grader. The plan was to let her use it as an art journal for school next year, but when she saw it she begged to draw in it and immediately produced 3 enthusiastic unique and cool drawings. I expect 639 more to come quickly. We may not be using it for school next year after all (I can see my kiddo easily filling it up over the summer), but I'm so glad we found it. I will be purchasing other versions soon—including one for me. Review: Beats boredom - This really kickstarts my daughter’s imagination and fights those “what should I draw?” debates.

Excellent for Little Hands with Big Imaginations!
This book was a birthday gift for my best friends daughter. It was an excellent size for her to carry around with colored pencils in her "purse" - that only has this book and colored pencils in it! The pages are also thick enough to withstand a bit of erasing - excellent purchase. Some of the drawings are goofy - like "robot tacos" or "cross between a pig and cat." Other descriptions were more detailed like "sunset behind wheat grains" and other more difficult prompts. I am giving it four stars instead of five because the book had a bent cover and torn binding. It wasn't enough to return it (the birthday was right around the corner) but it was enough that she noticed the wear and tear.

Great source for ideas
This is a great idea. When you simply page through it, you will immediately get ideas for other similar uses. I can imagine this book being the genesis of countless ideas for discussion starters in both child and adult groups.
