Danger at Dead Man's Pass: 4 (Adventures on Train)

Spooky and full of intrigue
I love this series and couldn’t wait for this fourth book. After ‘escalating’ from a jewel theft, to a kidnapping and then a murder in the first 3 books, I wasn’t sure where they could go next. The brilliant writing partnership of Sam Sedgman and MG Leonard did not disappoint, with a mystery to solve before the journey started. A curse, a very strange family, a missing will, witches, a spooky castle and a steam train gave great background to the story which was as always beautifully illustrated by Elisa Paganelli. As in previous books, this one combined a thrilling story and a classic denouement at the end with lots of interesting facts as Uncle Nat and Hal travel across Europe. These books are a great way to travel without leaving your armchair! The relationship between Hal and his Uncle also continues to develop and we find that Uncle Nat may not be all that he appears to be….

Brilliant series and this book is good too
We enjoyed this book as much as we did the rest of the series but our 9-year old who isn’t easily scared (Harry Potters, Star Wars, Nevermore series etc) found this one a bit much and had some nightmares. There’s also quite a lot of characters to get your head around. So definitely a bit darker and more complex than the other train mysteries. Still, can’t wait for the next one to come out

Amazing
My 10yr old son received ‘The Highland Falcon’ for Xmas & loved it, so read the trilogy & this is the 4th, it’s a fantastic read. It challenges & excites him enough to want to get into bed earlier & get stuck into his book (AMAZING)..It took a lot of persuasion to get my son to move away from David Walliams books when he was 9, but he happily moved onto ‘The boy who flew with Dragons’ trilogy & now finished these books. Just starting the Alex Rider series.

Good but harder read than earlier books
My 6 year old and I have enjoyed this series a lot. This book is more complicated for the younger audience to follow with lots of different characters and a darker plot. Still a good book , but might suit older children.

Page turning story
I love these books. I read this in 2 days. I especially loved the plot twist at the end. Highly recommend to anyone above the age of 10.

Brilliant, spooky train adventure!
Another excellent addition to this fantastic series. Hal is swept up by his Uncle and off into an adventure involving spies, creepy legends and a very fine, rather gothic, funeral train. Perfect reading for cold wintry nights.
