Great Music Experience - Fantastic Turntable
As a music lover and a vinyl collector, this is one of the best record players I have ever owned. Jensen is a reliable brand. There are lot of these small, cheap record players on the market but the Jensen JTA-230SE is the only one with a pitch adjustment and tone control (Especially at this price point). The built-in speakers sound are nice considering how tiny they are, but when the volume is turned all the way up (which is recommended when playing records) I thought the sound level was more than adequate. The Mahogany finish make it a great asset for your living room and even if you place in your office next to your desk. It has RCA outs, so you could hook up some powered speakers to it if you wish. The built quality is great and the dust cover is sturdy. A great turntable for personal use as well a great gifting option as well.

Reasonable player for quiet environments.
Needed a second turntable to play at work- no time at home to listen to the growing collection, what with kids and all. (My home turntable is the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB, with a pair M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Active Studio Monitor Speakers)This is a reasonable turntable to play in quiet environments. There is a little hum from the motor, but that is a minor inconvenience- masked by the music when it starts. May be a bit more distracting with quiet classical pieces. Some of the product photos use a 10" record, I think. A 12" will stick out a little bit more- you also have to carefully place the record on the platter, positioning it so that it goes under the pickup arm and into the rear gap in the cover. The back has the USB connection, an audio in, and the RCA jacks. The front has the headphone jack, power switch, auto stop switch, pitch adjustment slider, volume and tone knobs. The autostop uses the angle of the pickup arm to turn the turntable on/off, rather than the click the pickup arm makes in some players when you move it away from the record before placing the needle on the it.

I am pleased to say I am very satisfied with this record ...
I am pleased to say I am very satisfied with this record player. My first impression was, "This is a very well packaged product". I noticed all the parts and the lid were taped, but had the ends folded so as to easily grip to help with removal. So I wasn't sitting there picking at the tape and getting adhesive smeared around my new clean player. I really appreciated that. I can't wait to save some of my records to my computer! I have to admit the sound does not get very loud on the speakers. If you are in a quiet room with the player next to you it should be fine. We have an air conditioner in our room and it just didn't get loud enough until we hooked it up to our speakers. (Which we had planned on doing anyways)

the volume range isn't that great either; you can't really play anything quietly
The turntable produces a clear sound, but the maximum volume isn't that high. If you're trying to play your records with friends over, don't expect to hear the record well over the conversation. Additionally, the volume range isn't that great either; you can't really play anything quietly, but the volume that works best is moderate and enjoyable. It's a good player to play your records on while you work or just relax. One of its redeeming qualities is its sleek look. Even if your guests can't hear it, they can see it and be impressed by that.

Mine had a bad speaker.
I may have just gotten a dud but the speaker sounded TERRIBLE. To the point where I almost gave up buying records. I'm new to them and thought the records were just old and sounded badly. However, I ended up buying a more expensive record player and it sounded AMAZING so I came to the conclusion that the speaker in my Jensen player was just plain bad. Had the speaker been good, it's a decent player for the price. However, I paid double for one that looked a hundred times better and also had bluetooth, FM radio, an aux port, a CD player, and a cassette player.

Cheap. Spend a little more.
Sounds terrible. I suppose you get what you pay for, and I don't know why I expected more from this. I'm no audiophile, but I know what crisp, rich sound is and this record player doesn't have it. Even hooked up to an expensive external sound bar It sounds washed out, the pitch is inconsistent and requires regular adjusting, and it feels light and cheap. Spend another $50 and get something better if you care at all about audio quality.

Simple, with enough adjustments to be a reliable record player
I bought this player to enjoy some LP's that I found in grandma's attic. The vinyl is in pretty bad shape, but this little player does a good job of playing the heck out of those records. I haven't tried converting the songs to MP3's, but I really wanted the player to fit into a small space and to have sound loud enough for my 900 SF apartment. The sound is loud enough to hear in all rooms, though it isn't ear pounding by any stretch of the imagination. The player is adjustable for all the ways that I want to experience the records. I am very happy with the purchase, given the price.

Great for a beginning collector
I was recently given about 20-25 great vinyl albums, but had no way to play them. I just wanted something basic that I could hook up to my soundbar, so I went to Target to purchase a different brand, but the speed or balance was off and made Fleetwood Mac and Neil Diamond have a wah-wah sound every time the record spun around. That's what I get for not doing my research. The Jensen player was about $30 cheaper and has more features, like pitch and tone control. The only thing I liked better about the Target turntable is that there was a lever you could use to lift and lower the arm, so you didn't have to do it manually. I worry that my hands will be too shaky and end up scratching a record. That's probably never going to happen and I'm just worrying for nothing. All in all, a great little turntable.
