Q: Does it absorb urine in case of an accident and can this be washed in a washing machine?

It doesn't seem to absorb any urine. My older cat had an accident and pee'd all over the mat. It didn't leak at all. I sopped up the excess liquid and then took it outside and rinsed it off wiped it off with soapy water, rinsed with a hose then stood it on end in the sun. It dried quickly. It didn't absorb any water. You can't wash it in a washer but I can't see that it would ever be necessary.

I have the black hole litter mat, after one day, it has a big tear on top from cat scratcing (I have two cats that scratch all over after using litter box - seems like hard-wired instinctual behavior of covering up their waste in the wild, so there's no changing this behavior) . So, looking for a different model - I hope this one is more sturdy!

Q: Would this trap the crystals from Fresh Step Crystals.....or are they too big?

I use only crystal litter and use the Fresh Step brand most often. I don’t have a problem with the crystals getting stuck unless there is an unusual large one and if so, you can just push it through. It’s not the norm though.

Q: To the manufacturer: any plans to make a smaller size that can go in an apartment bathroom (16 ish x 19 ish)? please!!

I am the manufacturer and this will be the smallest size we produce. However, many customers use a large pair of scissors and cut to their desired shape / size. This cutting will not impair the mat much. Only the nylon wrap around the edge may need a small amount of glue to keep the edge flat on the mat. I hope this helps.
