Clarks Men's Wallabee Shoe

I just received my boots in the "beeswax" option, which is a brown leather. I am going to wear them all day today and update my review. But here are some initial thoughts: style and quality: These boots are beautiful, really have that classic, handmade look to them. They are very masculine yet, but not industrial looking, so they would be great in a casual or formal context. The laces are very thin, so long as they don't break this won't matter. Comfort: I followed the recommendations to get them a size smaller, and since I'm a size 12, I got 11. Initially, they have a very weird fit to them. They are a little more snug than I like on the top and sides, and the heel doesn't feel like it is securely in place when I stand in them. This is probably due to having two rows of laces. Reason I'm leaving a review now is because people said you have to "break them in". They are great looking boots so I want them to work, and I don't have much experience with boots so I don't know how they should feel initially. I will update my review later UPDATE: 8/5/2013 The first night I received them, I wore these boots for a night out downtown, where I have to walk down and up a 1/2 mile incline to get to and from my house, as well as probably a mile or two of walking while downtown. First of all, my friends immediately complimented me on how stylish the boots are. The boots seemed to break in and feel great only an hour after using them, contrary to what people said about one week. I am astonished that I like wearing these shoes, since I have a fairly flat arch, wide feet, I had given up on any stylish shoes to wear out, I usually had to wear my running shoes which looked mediocre when out with friends. I love these boots, they truly are classic, stylish, and comfortable. After the entire night of walking, I will say that they felt a little flat and I experienced some minor discomfort standing, but only some tiredness in my feet. No chafing, pain in toes, or anything serious. I recommend wearing some medium thickness wool socks if you are going to be walking a long time, very thin dress socks don't feel that great with these boots. It has been over one week since I got the boots, and I LOVE them, they are too good to be true

Desert Boots and Chukka's have quickly become one of the most popular style of boots over the last couple of years. There are literally hundreds of different options out there if your looking for this style boot and the prices can range from roughly $50 all the way up to $400 dollars. With that being said, Clarks Original Desert Boot is easily one of the best of the bunch especially when it comes to getting the most bang for your buck. I absolutely love this style boot and have over 15 pairs sitting in my closet from companies such as J.Crew, Johnston & Murphy, Frye, Diesel, John Varvatos, Red Wing, Bed:Stu, Original Penguin etc. Out of all the companies I have purchased this style boot from, there are really two that stand out more than the others in regards to getting the most bang for your buck. Those two are Clarks and J.Crew. Both make high quality boots and both keep things simple in regards to the design and that is exactly how I prefer them. Clarks Original Desert Boot is really the epitome of simple design. No flashy cuts of leather, no funky patina's, just a clean design using classic colors and high quality full grain leather or suede. If you think these are comfortable when you first try them on, wait until you have had a pair for 6 months. These boots become like butter on your feet. In all honesty, that is one of the greatest aspects to this style of boot, they break in and become one of the most comfortable pairs of boots you have ever worn. Out of all the boots I own, its my broken in Chukka's and Desert Boots that are the most comfortable. Some of my Clark Desert Boots are over 4 years old and they are still in amazing shape. In fact, as I stated in regards to comfort, they only getter better with age. If you take proper care of them they will last a very long time. Bottom line - Again there are now hundreds of choices out there for this style boot but very few can match Clarks Desert Boots especially when you consider the price. These are easily one of the best deals out there in regards to mens footwear. If your late to the Chukka/Desert Boot game then what are you waiting for? Every man should have at least a couple pairs in his closet. Clarks Desert Boot is a perfect place to start. The Taupe Suede & Brown Suede are the 2 that I recommend the most. They go with practically everything. 5 Stars!!

Gorgeous boots.

I bought my first pair of DBs (in beeswax leather) last year, and just picked up a pair in chocolate-brown suede to add to the rotation. They look great (the rest of my non-dress/athletic shoes have been gathering dust, as I find myself wearing nothing else with jeans or cords), take a beating, fit well (note that if like me you have feet that are wide at the ball, disregard the conventional wisdom about going down a size), and are pretty much barefoot-comfortable. The plantation-crepe soles are amazing - so soft that you can feel a crack in the sidewalk if you pay attention, but surprisingly durable (something about my gait will wear away a cheap rubber heel in a month, but not these), and the weird-looking bright-white will quickly reach something more subdued with normal wear. Clark's customer service is also great - they will replace broken laces free of charge (as long as you have the full style number for your color and size handy - check it inside the show when you get them and write it down somewhere, in case it wears away to illegibility). One thing to note about the comfort if you are new to DBs - what I said above applies after about five to ten wearings. When my first pair was brand new I was sure for a while that I'd been sold a bill of goods about how comfortable DBs are - un-broken-in DBs can HURT. I'm finding the same to be true with my new pair. But if you stick with it you will be amazed how well they break in, and you too will be a convert for life.

I got these boots almost six months ago and I've worn them pretty much every day. I like them a lot, but I've had a few minor problems. I purchased the Oakwood Suede style in a 10 M(my size in Red Wing's/tennis shoes), and they looked great upon arrival and fit perfectly. They were pretty comfy to start out with, but then I put small inserts in and it was much better. They're warm enough too. I live in northern Michigan and it's starting to get cold outside, but these boots keep me warm enough (while wearing wool socks) to stay outside for a few hours. The two problems that I have with the boot are the suede material and the laces. I would definitely recommend getting leather and not suede because it isn't too hard to stain the suede, and suede requires specialized products/methods for cleaning. Also the suede material is pretty flimsy, not as solid looking as in the picture. I have a friend with a pair in Beeswax Leather and his are much sturdier. The laces are cheap. They're like normal flat shoelaces. I wasn't really confident about them at first, but surprisingly they've been able to hold together until just 3 days ago when one snapped on me. They don't sell laces it seems so I'm going to have to try and find laces of similar color elsewhere. The boots aren't bad, but they aren't superb either. I'm satisfied with the purchase I made. I would buy Clarks again, except they'd be leather and the price would have to drop back down to $75.

I purchased the Clark's BushAcre 2 boots shortly after Black Friday and got them for a very affordable $72 after shipping via Amazon. I don't know if I will come up as a verified purchase but I did purchase them. I purchased the BushAcre 2's because I believed in some of the reviews on here that they are essentially the same shoe as the Clarks Desert Boot except for the sole. This is completely false. I own three pairs of the Desert Boot: Grey Suede and Black Leather and wanted to complete my boot collection by purchasing the Beeswax boot. Since the Beeswax BushAcre 2 looks almost identical to the Original Desert Boot, I gambled on the BushAcre 2's due to cost difference. I lost. When I got the BushAcre 2 from Amazon, I immediately felt a size (cut) difference than the Desert Boot. The Bush Acre 2's are more narrow and far less comfortable than the Original Desert Boot. Both shoes run too big. Original Desert Boot about a size big. BushAcre 2 about .5/.75 size too big. I went to the Clark's store in attempts to find the BushAcre 2 to confirm the difference but they said they do not carry them in the store and the BushAcre 2's are strictly "outlet" shoes---due to the cost difference. They also said that the quality of the Original Desert Boot is noticeable. At the time, I thought that was just sales speak but when the next day I returned my BushAcre 2's (got a full refund from Amazon!) and obtained the Original Desert Boot in Beeswax, I could definitely see what they were talking about. I immediately felt the size difference (as noted, the Orginal Desert Boot's run a full size bigger and the BushAcre 2's about .5/.75 size too big. I would only get the BushAcre 2's if I was really limited on spending. They are still a good value if you can get them in the $50-$65 range. In Short: Original Clark's Desert Boot- 5/5 in style, 5/5 in value, 4/5 in comfort, 4.5/5 in quality. runs a size too big. ($120) Clark's Bush Acre 2- 5/5 in style, 4/5 in value, 3/5 in comfort, 3/5 in quality. runs a half size/.75 size too big ($80) I think the BushAcre 2's are a good value if you value style over substance. People could possibly think they are the Original Desert Boots, since they look nearly the same, However, don't be fooled by just the outside of the shoe. After returning the BushAcre 2's I'm so glad I spent the extra $40 on getting the real deal, Original Clark's Desert Boot.

My favorite boot. I've had my first pair for about 2 years now and have ordered 4 more since. Let's start with the pros: 1). Goes great with everything from jeans and a T-shirt to chinos and a blazer. The most versatile shoe in my collection. 2). Beeswax leather ages great. It will scratch and scuff and crease. But that's the whole appeal of the boots. It's ruggedness gives it character and almost tells a story. A guy who's wears his to a cubicle will end up with a different pair then someone who works in carpentry. 3). Great build quality. I've put my first pair through hell without ever coating/cleaning/conditioning the leather and they are still going strong after 2 years. Would I still wear them on a date? Probably not unless I was going for a rugged look. Cons: 1). Insole. There really isn't an insole to this shoe. The crepe just meets a "insole" midway down the shoe till the heel. Not the best shoes if you're on your feet all day. All three of my pairs have memory foam insoles in them because my work keeps me on my feet and moving. If you work an office job this may not even be an issue. Anyone with foot problems, know you will need some sort of insole. (Memory foam works better than gels). I've read several reviews saying these are "comfortable straight out of the box" or the "most comfortable shoe" they've owned. This is a load of BS. I don't have or have had any foot problems and these are just not good for being on your feet for extended periods of time. I own 5 different pairs from beeswax to suede to finished leather to the rubber soled version and I've found this to be true for all 5. 2). The crepe sole. I don't mind that it picks up dirt and darkens in fact it adds to the character. But you can not wear these shoes in the rain. The crepe sole is esstiantially a sponge with pours that end up wetting your feet. (I know they are desert boots, but if it rains a lot in your area these may not be the boots for you) You can go with the rubber soles version Clark's offers but I own a pair and personally don't think the build quality is as good as on the original. You can see this on the lower price point as well between the two. The crepe sole will get your feet wet in rain but the rubber soled version aren't built as well. Pick your poison there Overall: If you can overcome the idea of not wearing these in the rain and having to buy an insole these will be the best pair of boots you've owned. The best investment if you're budget is tight or your going minimalistic. Versatile and woman love them because they're stylish but still masculine. Clark's sizing runs large. In converse I wear a size 10 and 10.5 in most other footwear. A size 10 works for me here

I purchased the Clarks Desert Boots in late February and they're falling apart now in June. I had high hopes when these boots arrived. They looked good on me and I was expecting to get some good use out of a pair of $112 boots. I was wrong. The first thing I noticed about these boots is that they have very little traction. A poor choice of footwear if you live in the Pacific Northwest! Even though I am cautious in the rain, I've still slipped a few times while walking in these. In the attached photos, you can see how terribly worn-down these boots are after only three months of use. The leather upper is still is decent condition, but everything else is already shot -- shoelace included. My usual routine is walking three blocks to work and standing about 35 hours per week; mostly on anti-fatigue mats. I do stand a lot, but that's why I spent the extra money on "good" shoes! I was really expecting more from these boots. I like to think that I received a bad pair, but I definitely won't be buying another.
