Q: It can be used with different metal detector ?

Yes. I use this with my Minelab Equinox 600 and my Minelab Manticore. You will not be able to pair the XP pinpointer with non XP detectors and headphones , but it can be used as a stand alone pinpointer while detecting with machines from manufacturers other than XP. I have had great success with this pinpointer and give it a 5 star rating. Durable and reliable.

Q: If it has a rechargeable lithium battery, why does it need two AA batteries?

That must be an error in the description. There are no aa batteries needed.

It depends on how close you are to metal that is hidden under the surface of the ground. This is how I use it: First, I find metal in the ground with my metal detector and dig a hole where I think the metal is. Next I use the pinpointed to determine where the target is in the hole. You need to be within about three inches of the target before the pinpointed will sound.
