Great Ferro Rods!
Big ferro rods like these will literally last you for years and the size makes them very easy to hold and control compared to some of the tinier ones on the market. After one scrape to remove the exterior paint I was throwing strong sparks immediately. At the time of purchase these two rods were $16.99, which is a great price for rods this big that work this well. These rods do not come with a striker and while some people might complain about that, I actually look at it as an advantage because, IMHO, the standard strikers that come with ferro rods are worse than useless. When I first got into using ferro rods I ordered a pair of rods that at I initially thought were defective. Turns out the rods were actually fine, but the included strikers were so bad that it made it impossible to make anything more than a tiny spark. I got a $1.99 pair of scissors and use them closed as a striker on both the old rods and these new rods... sparks fly everywhere! The only minor disadvantages I can see are: 1. If you want a firestarter for a compact/ultralight kit then obviously a big ferro rod like this might not be what you want, but that's just the nature of the product. 2. I really like that there is a hole pre-drilled for a tie-off, but in my case I have paracord that's just a hair too thick to put through the hole easily. That's not a showstopper though and of course a slightly thinner twine will work fine.

Great Product - Great Value
Finally! A ferro rod that is big enough to fit into my big mits. Once you have the protective coating scraped away from the rod it produces a huge volume of sparks and is very easy to handle due to its size. I would definitely recommend them. The two pack is a great value and I expect to pick up a few more so I can stash them around in my gear (go-bag, get home bag, car, office bag, etc.). My only complaint, if I really had one, is that these are heavy. I wear my rod around my neck when I an in the field and I needed to widen the neckback as the para-cord I initially used wanted to chafe. On the plus side, it gave me a good reason to braid a new neck band! If you bushcraft, camp, or just want to be well prepared these are a great investment.

Fire!!!
Higher quality than others I've used. Definitely throws a good shower of sparks. Large enough & hard enough to last for years if taken care of. Nice product. I'm making a fatwood handle for it. Very satisfied. Wish they offered a bigger one but this size is great too.

By Far Best Ferro Rod on The Market
It's been so long since the last 5 star review that I honestly can't tell you when I last wrote one. In this case the rods are outstanding. They are significantly large and longer than competitors and they work just as well if not better. I wanted a few rods so I could store them in different bags and spots in case one was lost and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for it. Additionally I wanted rods I could wrap with paracord as I try to keep cordage on as many items as I can and I wanted a rod that didn't have a striker attached as I find they cause more problems then they solve as I keep plenty of knives around that do the job better and aren't single function items. These rods fit the bill. I received them quickly and went to try them out. They are the prefect size when wrapped with paracord and threw great sparks. Used a cotton ball Vaseline mix I always keep on hand for fire starting and in a single strike it caught like a lighter to a gasoline spill.

These rods are pretty standard if you can use one you can pretty ...
First thing you need to understand is this thing is massive. Make sure you actually have room in your kit for it. If you attach this to a keyring is about the size of a standard kubaton. The first thing I did just take a 3 inch wide piece of a gorilla tape rap about a foot of it around the rod just below the lanyard hole. The size of this thing you do not need a handle but doing this will present to you just over two and a half inches of the rod which is plenty to work with and you're not wasting anything. These rods are pretty standard if you can use one you can pretty much use any of them. But not wanting to write a review until I actually started the fire with this thing, I grabbed one of the fire starters out of my kit which I make out of the paper from the office Shredder and candle wax, it takes an actual flame to get this started so I also grabbed a piece of dryer lint about half the size of a cotton ball. Fluffed up the lint place the fire starter on top of it leaving about 3/4 of the lint exposed. Not one who likes to scuff up my knives so I grab the scissors out of my first aid kit using the back of the blade made three Strokes to get the paint off. Aimed at the lint ball three Strokes later there was fire. I do teach basic survival skills so I'm pretty good at this stuff. Even if you've never use this method before and you burn up a lot learning this rod will still last you pretty much forever. You will to lose it someday or pass it on to a young Adventurer. If you cannot start a fire with this it isn't a defective product, it's just God's way of culling The Herd.
