Excellent Product - Worked Flawlessly On First Try
I initially wrote a negative review because the item delivered to me appeared to have been previously used; so I immediately returned it and Amazon promptly sent a replacement. This review pertains to my actual use of the product. In short, the product was easy to use (if one knows how to read and follow directions) and it worked flawlessly. The package includes a programmer that is plugged into the car's OBD port and a new after-market key fob that can be programmed for the specific vehicle as long as you have an original functioning key fob. I purchased the package for a used 2012 Nissan Altima coupe that only came with one key fob. I had already purchased an OEM Nissan replacement key fob but discovered that a local locksmith wanted nearly $80 to program it; and of course, the dealer wanted a whole lot more than that! Since the Dorman programmer didn't cost much more than the local locksmith had quoted and since the Dorman package also includes a key fob, I decided to try it. I am glad I did. Again, it worked flawlessly on the first attempt and now I have THREE functioning key fobs; which is great because we have three drivers in our household.Based on some of the negative reviews posted on this site; it became clear to me that in many cases, the failure of the product was caused by user error. So, I offer the following tips. First, download and print out the PDF file of the instructions that are available on Amazon as part of the product description; and then carefully read and study those instructions at least four or five times before proceeding. Also, have the instructions in front of you as you perform the programming steps. Second, before you initiate the programming, enter the vehicle, close the doors and turn off everything (radio, navigation system, heater/ac fan, etc.). Third, during programming, never touch the brake pedal. Fourth, BEFORE plugging the programmer into the OBD port, push the ignition switch once to the "acc" position and then once more to the "on" position (the dash lights up). From that point, follow the instruction steps exactly as specified keeping in mind that once the programmer is plugged into the OBD port; switching from on to off and then from off to on (and so on and so forth) only requires ONE PUSH of the ignition switch button. It only takes about two minutes to program a key fob--but don't rush the process! Where the instructions state "wait at least ten seconds"; you must wait at least ten seconds. To ensure you do that; take a digital kitchen timer with you, place it on the dashboard, and start it so it is counting up the seconds. I did that and, for example, when I completed a step and had to wait ten seconds, I would immediately glance at the timer for a "start" time. For example, if the timer read 17 seconds after I completed a step, I would wait until it read 27 seconds before initiating the next programming step. (There are enough "on" and "off" steps in the programing sequence to bother with the additional task of starting and stopping a stopwatch or timer as part of the process! Just keep it simple.)Finally, to correct some misconceptions as evidenced by some other users' comments. Yes, you must have an original functioning key fob in order to program a new one. Yes, you can program multiple key fobs during one programming session--it only requires two easy steps for each additional fob you want to program before closing out the programming, and the written instructions make that crystal clear. And yes, you will need to have the metal key included with each new fob cut to match the original key; but you might not even be charged for cutting the metal key. If you are charged, it will probably only cost a few dollars.Bottom line, this Dorman product saved me hundreds of dollars, particularly given the fact that we needed two additional key fobs. Moreover, if one of our fobs ever gets lost or damaged, it will be easy for me to use the programmer to again program a replacement (I understand that the programmer allows five programming sessions before it is disabled--and so far, I only used it for one session to program two new fobs as summarized above).I am very pleased with this product.

Dorman Is Not What It Used To Be!
I used this device per the instructions after copying the instructions into a word processor to increase the font before printing! I followed each step as directed and then my FOB no longer worked. I tried redoing it and still nothing. I tried a third time and half way through the process the unit beeped 10 times and appeared to stop working. There are no instructions for when this happens!!! The Dorman company I remember made the tools others did not and the Dorman tools were great! Not anymore. Of I could I would give this product 5 Negative stars. Do not waste your money like I did.

Worked Like A Charm!
To be honest, I was skeptical but I took a chance. I have a 2012 Nissan Murano. Followed instructions carefully and worked the first time. Remember to wait at least 10 seconds (I waited 15 to be sure) when instructions say to wait. As a bonus, programming more fobs is easy, since once you are in the programming mode, it is only two steps to program more of them. With the one that came with the kit, I now have 3 extra fobs that work perfectly.

Ease of use, works like a charm
I just received this today.I pulled up the instructions with a QR reader app from the picture on the package. It will bring you to a website that you can choose which car you own and it will bring you to a YouTube video that walks you through step by step on how to do it. Otherwise, you can find the video pretty easily by searching on YouTube, which is actually a little faster. It’d recommend watching the video while you have something to write with or type out the steps for reference. The video, while easy to follow, goes through the process quickly.Didn’t run into any major problems at all during the install and now have two keys, as my original is falling apart.I did have to restart a couple times, but never had to go to my car battery and detach the negative terminal, nor did I lose function of my original key.I’ve been meaning to get a second key for a long time, but didn’t want to pay dealership rates.EDIT: I knocked it down because the key started acting up at the start of winter and I ended up forking over the expense of the dealership to have multiple keys made because the original is toast. But I’d still recommend this if you need to make a backup key.
