Explorers
I first saw this film in 1985/86 when a history teacher brought in a VHS rental for the last class before summer holidays, we all stopped after school to watch it, that's how good this film is. For some strange reason, during the 80's Hollywood created kids films that didn't talk down to children, case point, compare the gang of teenagers in the Breakfast Club to the Glee and High School Musical cast. The film is a brilliant fantasy by ILM and Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Hole) about three children, just reaching their teens, Ethan Hawke has a dream (great early CGI) and scribbles down what he's dreamt. River Pheonix, playing a child obsessed with science, makes a circuit board from the scribbles and manages to create a blue orb. It all ends up with them building a UFO out of junk and flying into space to meet aliens. Sounds corny I know, but it's done with such warmth and heart, it would be hard not to enjoy this charming film. If you enjoyed Goonies, you should get this film, it's especially good for young children. The version I got was a Dutch edition, don't worry, it runs on R2 machines without conversion and you just have to select English from the front menu.

80s classic - multi region.
Fantastic film. Hadn't bought previously as expected it would be region locked as a shout factory release. Can confirm plays on region B (both discs) very happy.
