Import-only release containing a previously unreleased live performance by the original Ornette Coleman quartet, in a reunion concert that took place in Hamburg, Germany, in 1987. The performance was taped nearly 30 years after the quartet's first album, the wonderful the Shape of Jazz to Come. Among the many highlights here are revised versions of 'Lonely Woman', from that album, and 'The Sphinx', from Ornette's first album, Something Else!, as well as various tunes from the quartet's reunion studio album, in All Languages, which was recorded during the same year this concert was taped.

The music on this recording is amazing, Ornette Coleman is my favorite alto saxophone player
The music on this recording is amazing, Ornette Coleman is my favorite alto saxophone player, I own most of the Coleman albums and this one is one of his best, one thing to mention on the first Cd is that the second and third song the names are incorrect the second one is Word From Bird and the third song is Africa is The Mirror of All Colors. I once saw a video on youtube from this reunion tour that took place in 1987 and was a beautiful concert I'm not sure if that video was the same as this audio, unfortunately the video is not anymore on youtube. By the way I bought the Cd from ImportCds and the price was much less than the mp3 from amazon.

Fantastic recording!
This is an absolutely fantastic CD. First of all, it is excellently recorded. You can hear each instrument with clarity and spaciousness. Second, the performances are great! Everyone is playing at the top of their game, and there is a special quality of accessibility in these performances that is unusual. This is the quartet that changed everything in jazz, and live recordings of this particular group are exceedingly rare. Highly recommended.

Problem with Disc 2, track 5
This is a GREAT album for fans of Ornette and his classic quartet. But something has gone seriously wrong with Disc 2, Track #5 in the MP3 download of this set. After a few seconds at the beginning, it degenerates into sheer hiss, with an occasional hint of music bleeding through. I was disappointed, but I'm still enthusiastic about anything by Ornette that I haven't heard before!

One of the GREAT Live Ornette Albums!
Bootleg though it may be, this release is simply fantastic. Excellent sound and the performances are superb. This was a historic reunion and the music is intensely and creatively delivered. A must-have for the Ornette fan.

One of Ornette's best
Incredibly creative and smokin' improvising by Ornette, even by his lofty standards, as it were. I predict no Ornette fan will be disappointed.

impossible to remove disc without breaking it
i have owned this cd for years now and have been unable to play it since the disc is so difficult to remove that i am afraid it will break if i exert any more pressure on the area holding it in. no company named on the product will admit that they issued it or do anything to help! my advice would be to not buy this thing until some company comes forward, admits they manufactured it and offers to replace the disc if it is broken by simply trying to remove it.
