This adapter is perfect for reading old hard drives or connecting SSDs externally. Simple plug-and-play, comes with power supply for larger drives, and the USB-C connection is fast. Worked flawlessly with both 2.5” and 3.5” drives. Very handy for data transfer.

Arrived quickly and after connecting to my Mac via an old hard drive I still could not retrieve the data I wanted but that was probably down to me

I bought this to access the files on an old IDE drive: something I had been meaning to do for years. I was slightly concerned at the lack of instructions (just a booklet on how to set up the backup software, which I didn't need). I just attached the IDE drive to the relevant 20-pin connector, together with the power lead provided, connected the USB-C lead to my PC, the 12V power adapter to the mains, and hit the 'on' switch. Hey presto, my PC registered a new drive, and it appear in the file explorer, with all the files accessible. I wondered if I would have to fiddle around with the master/slave jumper on the drive, but it worked (with jumper set to 'CS' on the drive). First thing I did was run the virus check on the drive, then I proceeded to copy the files I needed. All-in-all a pretty painless process. If I had any criticisms it would be around the cabling. The USB-C cable is very short and so you need to locate the adapter very close to the PC, which can be tricky since you also have to support the weight of the attached hard drive. For the sake of a few pennies, why not make the cable longer? Also the connector for the power for the drive is quite flimsy: I'll likely plug the lead in once and just leave it. All-in-all, I'm pretty happy with the device on its first use.

After trying a different adaptor and then a docking station, I kept getting the 'No Media' message despite the hard drives powering up. Based on reviews I then purchased this Alxum adaptor and as soon as I started unpacking I could feel the quality, especially in the Molex connector! This plugged in securely, just as it should without needing to be forced. (These seem a very tight when disconnecting from the PC's the first time) I started up the Windows 7 PC, connected everything on my Quantum Fireball IDE 3.5 hard drive, switched the adaptor power on, it found it and worked straight away, such a relief! As the PC I used for the transfer didn't have USB-C, I got an adaptor which worked fine. The cable provided is a tad short, but is also adequate and I used the USB SS PC port on the back. I left the jumper or bridge position as it was from the PC, CS or slave and this worked, after trying in different positions for other adaptor and docking station. This Alxum adaptor also worked for my Fujitsu IDE 2.5 hard drive, which powered from the USB cable. Overall, well done Alxum, a great product!

this is going back - it will not access any of my external hard drives - and does not auto run and appear in Windows 11

It comes with every lead required and works perfectly, however, the computer usc is a C connector and as the computer I wished to use it on has a non working usb C connector I had to purchase a standard usb converter, a minimal cost to test the device out. Works perfectly.

I had an old 120GB SSD card which connected and read without issue. Great. I also had an old 300GB Sata Serial ATA drive which connected and read without issue. Great. I also had an old WD1600 Serial ATA drive which has a seperate power source. A power lead has been sent with the adapter, however it is so short there is no way it will reach from the Drive to the socket on the adapter. So until I source a longer power lead I can use the adapter. Shame as this is the only issue I can see otherwise I'd have given this 5 stars, but the short lead is a big inconvenience. The manufacturers would have realised this if they had tested the product with an older drive.

Me ha venido muy bien porque tenía un montón de discos de 3,5" SATA y PATA, y este pequeño artilugio me ha podido conectar los discos con mi portátil. Lo he utilizado para pasar los datos que tengo de mis discos, algunos de los cuales eran copia de seguridad de datos antiguos, en fin, toda mi vida. En pocos días he pasado todos esos discos a un disco pequeño de 2 Tb. Digo pequeño de tamaño, porque de capacidad tiene mucho más que la pila de discos que tenía.

Had twee oude 40 pins 3,5 IDE-schijven en een 2,5 SATA-schijf die ik alle drie probleemloos en gemakkelijk aan kon sluiten op mijn laptop met windows 11. Windows herkende de schijven alle 3 direct en heb zo nog allemaal oude foto's van mijn schijven kunnen halen. Ben zeer tevreden en zou deze aan iedereen aanraden. Vooral omdat ik hiervoor een goedkopere IDE/SATA-adapter heb gekocht (die onder verschillende merknamen veel lijkt te worden verkocht), die in ieder geval niet werkte met windows 11: wat ik ook deed, de schijven werden alle drie niet herkend.
