Very informative!
I am new to the gem mining and rock hounding hobby. I absolutely love it and look forward to using this as a reference. It has so much information in it, is well written and easy to follow. Some of the topics are far above my skill level but I’m sure that soon I will be able to understand it and use it better once I get a little more experience. I’d say this is a must have for anyone interested in gems. Very helpful.

Missing color inserts
In description it said 80 color pictures included with insert. There was no insert and therefore no color pictures which are crucial in gem identification. Would have been 5 stars with insert

Gem identification made easy without pictures.
I am very disappointed in this book. Considering it's a book to help you identify gemstones, I expected to see pictures of gemstones. There were about 10 pages of poor quality pictures. I haven't started reading it but because there's so much text, I'm expecting a lottttt of information which is why I'm keeping it and ordering a different book that actually has crisp vibrant pictures of gemstones.

Must-have for Beginners
The book covers all basic tools for coloured gemstones for me as a beginner who has a background in physics and chemistry. It provides practical tips for all gemologists.
