70's and a very beginning of Diamond Way
It is very interesting to read about the world at the end of 60's, and it is even more interesting to read how one of a most successful projects of bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West began. What started as a devotion and search for a meaningful life of a Danish couple - not a wealthy or politically influential one, later become a path for thousands of people across the globe. Lama Ole is very honest, so I enjoyed this reading a lot. It is also amazing to read not just in this book, how the head of Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, 16th Karmapa, being forced to leave Tibet, decided the West is so important for the survival of his school. I guess he never been there and had very few disciples from Europe. The sequel of this book is "Riding the tiger" which is also great.

Great insight into Buddhist practices for the western mind.
This book offers great stories about Lama Ole and Hannah’s journey to the East to learn about Buddhism. While Buddhism can be a somewhat mystic and content fully wise (outwardly distant) lifestyle, this story offers an inside look into the lives, clues and culture of a people whose practice has spanned generations and offers powerful methods for realizing the nature of mind for the sake of attaining the highest possible happiness.

vastly fine
This is one of Lama Ole Nydahl's most captivating books, one of his best. It's a superb book about Diamond Way Buddhism. The Lama Ole you get in person, full and every time he teaches, is richly present in this book about his honeymoon in Nepal, his conversion, and SO much after that! He's a great teacher, a realised teacher. Kingdom politics have been played for centuries, perhaps especially in exile. Whatever the real meaning behind the ongoing controversy of two Black Karmapa 17 claimants, Lama Ole Nydahl's teaching is refined by truth tested, a legacy of buddhist teaching that affords faith in the truth, and the understanding attained from it. Entering the Diamond Way is rich and clear, and a beacon of hope.

A spritual autobiography of great importance
Hannah and Ole Nydahls journey is amazing. This is a spritual autobiography of great importance. It gives a great insight into the awakening of the 1960 and onward and the introduction of tibetan buddhism in the West. Even though I am not a buddhist I still find the book very fascinating and it increased my respect and understanding of the buddhist path.

Finally, he becomes very insightful
I found this a difficult book to read. I kept thinking this man ought to grow up. And, finally he did. I am so glad I read the book (but sorry I had to wade through the stupid stuff).

The Best
This is the best book for not only understanding Buddhism, but also seeing how Buddhism is lived in our daily lives. I highly recommend it. I have read it at least 7 times and each time it is fresh and new. Each time I gain more and more insights into Buddhism. I have given this book to countless numbers of friends. If I could only take only 3 books with me to a deserted island this book would be one of them.

essence of modern buddism
Must-have reading for all who wants to know basics of Buddhism, especially Diamond Way Buddhism point of view. Stripped down from cultural traces, pure Buddha's teachings from lama (Buddhist teacher) who meditates 35 years. Was easy to read for me, should be fairly easy for most of you, as Ole says it contains 7 levels of techings. Happy reading!

during their honeymoon in Nepal they met the greatest of buddhist spiritual teachers of Tibet
This book tells the Story of Ole Nydahl and his wife Hanna. in 1968, during their honeymoon in Nepal they met the greatestof buddhist spiritual teachers of Tibet: the Karmapa. They stayed and learnt from him until he asked them to bring buddhist teachingsto the west. It is a wonderful story full of useful informations but if you are fresh in buddhism better start with somethingmore informative by the same author.

Great Book
Whatever people say about Lama Ole and The Diamond Way, he presents a genuine western version of Karma Kagyu teachings that speaks to westerners and the western way of life. Their is no wonder that The Diamond Way is the largest Kagyu Buddhist group in the west. This book is good for either the complete beginner or an experienced Buddhist.

A great introduction to Buddhism and an astonishing travel report
A great read: Not only is it a captivating travel report that shows the world between Europe and India in the hippie times but also it is packed with Buddhist teachings and gives an idea what Buddhism is all about, also on a personal level. Very accessible and addictive.
