This is yummy
This is our 3rd jar, take it every morning on an empty stomach. Sweet (does have sugar and some fat) Seems to help with our energy early in the day, and very soothing on tummy. Love to see all the ingredients, and the recipe has been around for a long time.

Good but a little too sweet for me
It tastes fine, and the company seems reputable, but it is very sweet. Before buying this, I was taking the Chayawanprash made by Organic India, which has only 2.8g of sugar per teaspoon; this Himalayan Institute brand has 6g sugar in each teaspoon.

Food is medicine, medicine is food
Food is medicine, medicine is food... this is the general principle of ayurveda ( the knowledge of life or longevity)So, if it's food, then taste or rasā is involved. That is why this product ( that I have been using for some years now) is worth using regularly. If you wish to increase overall health this product can contribute to your well being. If you are looking for an instant ~fix~ to illness, you will need to look else where.-------------------------------------------------------------Now a bit about this notion of taste for those interested. Taste is quite important in āyurveda. Our tasting ability is considered intelligent. That is, the mind-body may be looking for a specific nutrient and it is my taste that it finds it.Taste say the vaidya (āyurvedic doctor) resides more in us then in the foods we consume. That is why different people taste food differently and favor one food-type over another. Within āyurveda there are 6 tastes:madhura or sweetamla or sourlavaṇa or saltykaṭuka or pungenttikta ,or bitterkaṣāya or astringentHaving all 6 tastes ( daily) balances the system - that is the benefit statement for this product; it contains these 6 tastes. In the USA we are 'sold' sweet, sour and salty ( soda, chips and dip - frappuccino's and the like) - we miss all 6 tastes on a daily basis.... this product gives the 6.The name of this product ? It comes from the original person that formulated the rasayana ( as this is called)... Cyavāna (some spell chyavāna ) was the son of great sage, one of the 7 great sages (saptarṣi-s). Cyavāna is mentioned in the mahābhārata (ādi parvan section 5); In this section it tells how he got his name. So, as the story goes cyavāna-ji became aged and feeble over time. To his rescue come the aśvin-s as they are considered rājyā-vaidya’s (the royal or princely physicians) and masters no less of āyurveda. They in turn present him with the proper ‘food’ (prāśa) to restore his youth. With this we end up with a rasāyana called cyavāna-prāśa i.e. the food (prāśa) given to cyavāna You will see it spelled more often in today’s verbiage as chyawanprash ( some too may spell it chyavanaprasha).ps-some put this rasāyana on bread and the like... I found that it is best to take a spoonful and let it stay on the tongue before swallowing it. Let the tongue figure out some of the flavors, then down the hatch. The tongue in this school of thinking also has ~ intelligence~ and will make due with the tastes of this rasāyana. So far ( after some years of trying) this has been the best blend I have found to date. Why then not 5 stars? Well , 5 stars means I love it. That to me seems a bit odd for my value system so, I stick with what I think is accurate.... a solid 4 stars. More importantly I am a repeat buyer and recommend ( only this brand) to friends.

Best Chyawanprash I've tried!
I've tried three different brands of chyawanprash, and so far, I prefer the Himalayan Institute version. First of all, this brand contains no preservatives, as does one other brand that I tried. And since the product ingredient label will not show on the amazon.com web site, you can be in for nasty little surprises when you receive your product. The second reason I like the Himalayan Institute brand better is that amla fruit is first on the ingredient list. On another brand I tried, amla is listed second after the raw sugarcane.Lastly, I prefer the taste of the Himalayan Institute chyawanprash to the others. It has just the right amount of a peppery taste to the sweetness, and it has small chunks that give you something to chew on.

Excellent Chyavanprash
I was introduced to chyavanprash while on a yoga retreat a few years ago. I eat a teaspoon a day as a supplement. There are many brands on the market, but this is my favorite. There is no added sugar, but somehow it’s the best tasting brand I’ve found. Many brands have sugar as the number one ingredient. This one is a little more pricey than most, but worth it if you’re looking for real deal ingredients to maximize benefits.

Old Product!
Great product when you can find it fresh with a 12+ month shelf life. From this seller, the manufactured date is 3/2016 and BEST buy date is 3/2019. My Chyawanprash Jam arrived on 10/2018 (2 yrs old) so I basically have 3 months to use. I would ask the BB date from this seller before ordering or find a different seller.
