The product is exactly as advertised. You get an RFID reader attached to a very simple locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is spring loaded and will forcibly eject the latch, which can either be useful or inconvenient depending on the application. You can power the lock with either a (very short) USB cable or two AA batteries. The USB cable is standard USB 2.0 to a 2.5mm bipole, so you may need to hunt around if you're looking for a longer one. Programming the lock is extremely easy, and you can program other 125khz RFID items like stickers. Perfect for if you want your unlocking item to be inconspicuous (i.e. not a fob or a card). You can pick up a pack of 10 stickers for $10 elsewhere on amazon, just search for 125khz rfid sticker. The lock comes with two cards and two fobs, but no stickers. It is annoying that the program button is on the opposite side from the latching mechanism. That means that if you want to reprogram and you've lost your master card you'll need to drill a hole for the reset button or unmount the lock to get at the reset button. On the plus side, the device keeps RFID signatures even when the batteries are removed, although I have not yet tested to see how long it retains programming. The mounting hardware is sparse, but functional. The hatch is stamped metal inside rigid plastic, so it won't stand up to any type of realistic forced entry. But that's to be expected. This isn't for high-security applications, it's for hidden applications or keeping honest people honest. If you are looking to use this in a puzzle (e.g. escape room, puzzle box) then you'll probably want to open it up to disable the speaker so the solvers can't get extra information, and you'll probably want to buy a longer USB cord (or really hope the batteries don't fail). There's not much more that one can expect from this item at this price point. If you're looking for an inexpensive way to hide a locking mechanism, then this will do the job.

I initially had a question about the product and the seller responded in a few days with a solution to my query. I followed their instructions and now my cabinet is locked and none of the cards or fobs will unlock it. It has been over a week and they have not answered my questions.

The order arrived very quickly but the latch , battery cover, usb cable and sticker was missing, no instructions whatsoever in box. Contacted seller and a refund was processed immediately, props for this only. Seller did not claim the original package, I nevertherless installed batteries to see if the unit works, but it seems defective, only beeps and does not unlock, reset button also defective. So buyer beware.

Not usually one to write reviews but figured I’d write one for this if you’re in a position I was looking for a solution. I ordered these to attached to an ikea cabinet which I would be using to store items I did not want guests or maintenance entering my apartment to accidentally come across. Ease of Installation: Installation is really straight forward, like really straight forward. If you have any semblance of common sense you will have zero issues installing it to a cabinet, drawer etc. Ease of programming: Again, ridiculously straight forward, programming a master key for the two locks I purchased, then individual keys for each lock took me less than 10 minutes. All it takes is following simple 1,2,3 instructions. Programming is a little more involved if you want to use the advanced features (dual key access) but still easy enough. Durability and functionality: Had mine for roughly 2 weeks now, opening and closing each cabinet door several times a day with both the master key and the individual keys, not one issue has appeared. Locks do not shift nor do they need to be adjusted as long as you use the included hardware. And this is with my both slamming the cabinet door shut on my way past it and gently closing it. Its been handled gently and abusively and has stood up to the test with zero issues. Battery Life: Can’t speak to that but like I said have had one of the locks for two weeks opening several times a day and not a problem yet. The instructions mention that once battery is low you will hear an audible long beep after opening it at which point you should soon after replace the battery. Then it will pop open on its own to avoid locking itself with dead batteries. Overall its a great little security feature for 12-15 bucks.
