Grand Theft Auto V - PlayStation 3

GTA5 is the best game ever. There I said it. I've played all the GTA's. I finished 1&2 on the computer a LONG time ago. GTA3 was revolutionary and finished that too. I finished Vice City. Then I got bored with the genre. I didn't get close with San Andreas, and I think I got 30% into GTA4 before I got bored and sold it. Red Dead Redemption was awesome (also by Rockstar) and only barely felt like I might play GTA5. Right on the pre-order deadline I decided to give it a shot. Right from the beginning, the game was the same, but somehow different. You could do all the same things, run, steal cars, shoot everything, escape the police, but you could do so much more. Swimming, boating, skydiving, stealing airplanes? Infiltrating a military base? Pop wheelies on motorcycles? Playing golf or tennis? These were some crazy additions. The other BIG change is playing as THREE characters. Just as I started getting used to playing as Franklin, you suddenly have to do a bunch of missions as Michael. Then they force you to play as Trevor for quite a while. It really keeps the game from getting dull or stale. More cut scenes than I remember, but the acting is pretty good. Well, it was entertaining for me at least. I finished the game, in about 100 hours just because I like doing other things BESIDES advancing the game. There is so much to do that isn't in the scope of the missions or advancing the storylines that most of the fun I had with the game wasn't in missions at all. The missions are fun, for sure, but trying to steal a tank, or stealing a fighter jet is a lot of fun too. Taking a dune buggy into the mountains to see how far/how many jumps you can do without killing yourself is fun also. And, in a holdover from Red Dead Redemption, hunting and killing cougars feels like vindication after all the times in RDR that they attacked me on my horse. In GTA5, they have a little trouble getting you when you are in a car. I hate those cougars. The ONLY con I have with the game, besides the amazing amount of time I used playing it, is all the swearing. Yes, I get that it's an M for Mature game. But about 80% of the game I could let my kids play if there wasn't swearing. They love flying helicopters and planes, driving as fast as they can down city streets, swimming under the water looking for treasure among other things. But with so much swearing, from passers-by, and the characters themselves just driving around, they have to do it with the sound turned all the way down. Which is a shame. Isn't all the dialog pre-recorded? I would hope for GTA6 they have a setting to blank out the swearing, or beep it, or change the dialog altogether with the "No swearing" checkmark is checked. Maybe I'm being a bit of a prude, but it was far from enjoyable listening to Lamar and Franklin overuse the "N-word" in all of their dialog. I get that it's part of the joke. That these characters are "over the top". I get it. But being able to turn it off would be nice. BTW, I had to sell my copy just so I wouldn't play it anymore. I've never "had" to sell a game so that I wouldn't play it anymore. I finished the game and would still spend hours doing things and exploring the world. It's a HUGE world. Playing GTA5 is way more fun than watching TV. It's like its own TV show that you control. Best game ever.

Belay the narrow drudgery of GTA 4. Commit it to the flames, for it holds not the slightest comparison to the megalith that is Grand Theft Auto 5. GRAPHICS: The textures and bump maps, the long distance rendering with atmospheric perspective, the clever dodging of excessive tiling, all eons beyond the previous GTA entry. And the water....WOW. It's breathtaking. Look at it! The depth, highlights and ripples appear on surfaces as vivid as though you were looking at video footage. The lighting effects also represent the pinnacle of what can be achieved on the PS3. GAME GRID: The shear size and terrain diversity is equally mind boggling. The wildlife and pedestrian AI is outstanding enough to keep you occupied for hours, whether you're content to listen to asinine conversations of passers by, watch the beach girls stroll down the street, or hunt wildlife while evading deadly mountain lions. Or you could swim to underwater sea wreckage and get chomped by a shark! CHARACTERS: Another mixed bag of degenerate fun. The character selection panel is new for this entry and adds an unprecedented layer of intensity as the game has you switching between characters in the midst of chaotic shootouts and driving and flying missions. GENERAL GAMEPLAY: Here's where a few complaints are in order. The steering on the vehicles is a bit twitchy and vague. As you turn the wheel the radius becomes progressively more intense. If you turn the wheel a micron too far, the car overcorrects and winds up eating a lamp post. It does require some adapting to, but not impossible. The police AI is noticeably more reactive even to petty crimes than in previous entries, and when in pursuit, ruin your day faster than you can reload. The flying is perhaps the only travesty worthy of mention. It has been, in a word, RUINED. I don't know what compelled the game designers to reinvent the wheel by inputting so much air turbulence into aircraft handling as to make it such a jarring, nauseating, experience in dealing with a plane or helicopter that is constantly unsettled by simulated wind shear. Don't allow such complaints to stear you away from GTA5. They are but trivial flaws in an otherwise captivating game stuffed to the brim with visual and audible detail and a rich diversity of missions, sub-plots and activities both prescribed and informal. You will be hooked. (And few games provide such a real threat to my social life. You've been warned!) PLAY THIS GAME NOW!!!

Como videojuego, estoy seguro que hay muchos que son mejores, lo que no quita que este sea muy bueno y sin duda el mejor GTA que se ha hecho. La única pega que le he visto, al menos a esta version de PS3, es que en algunos momentos presenta pequeños bugs gráficos o de comportamiento de la IA, nada grave (de hecho, algunos son tan insignificantes que podría ser que ni los notes o que incluso te parezcan graciosos) y es posible que sea debido a la enorme cantidad de elementos que hay en pantalla en todo momento y que el PS3 no es capaz de procesar al 100%. Por cierto, esta edición (Greatest Hits) incluye dentro de la caja del juego un mapa físico, estilo poster, de la ciudad en que se desarrolla el juego; ignoro si la edición original también lo incluía, pero un gran extra sin duda para los fans :-)

GTA3以来の衝撃。 基本は守りつつ、数々の細かい改善がなされ、遊びやすくなり、映像的なリアルさは飛躍的に向上している。 実際に存在するかのようにいきいきした街、毎日変わる夕焼け、海、人々、魅力的な夜の街... ただ風景を眺めるだけで楽しいし、美しさに感動する。 グラフィックの美しさと、恐ろしく細かく精巧に作られた世界が、没入感をすごく高めている。 英語が苦手な方は、少し難しいかも知れません。音声での指示が多く、字幕で指示は出るものの見にくいし、すぐ消えるので。 しかし、数ヶ月前にThe last of usで感動したばかりなのに.... 今年は本当にゲームが豊作ですね。 あと、Rockstarのゲーム、MAX PAYNE 3を未プレーの方はぜひ！今作の銃撃アクションの基本となったゲームです。超良作です。
