It just works, For those of you that don't know what it is it's basically an anti-piracy device that stores your license keys. So your computer doesn't have to be hooked to the internet in order to use the software. I can have the software on two computers, That way I just Take the device with me to use on my laptop when I'm not at the studio! It's very easy to use, just plug it in! I have multiple licenses stored on that device.

Worked instantly, and now i can easily move my licences between PCs. Amazing, quality and easy to use. Transfer in iLok licence manager was easy, just drag and drop!

This is compact, lots of storage for licenses, lights up blue to ensure connected and working! Nice ILok!

Cloud based iLok activations are things we simply have grown accustomed to. It's not a fun process, but I get why companies have to go through such lengths. With that said, I was having no issues with activations via the cloud. Activated plugins from just about every audio company I can think of, until, well one company would not allow cloud activations unless I signed up for their subscription service. On principal alone, I decided to take the hit and buy this iLok USB key. Super easy to setup, and even though I did not want to buy this, I'm glad I did. Nothing will stand in my way now bwahaha! I like the fact that I have some hardware for my licenses. And I love the fact that I no longer have to worry about ANY type of activation. The iLok USB makes sure I'm ready for whatever these companies throw at me.

It works and it's reliable. I'm using to lock various EastWest products and it was zero problem getting it installed and it has never given me the slightest issue. OTOH the Steinberg lock I'm using with Cubase was a total pain to get running, and has several times locked me out of my Steinberg products. Unfortunately, one does not get to pick which device can be used with various products. But if I had a choice, this iLok3 would be it, hands down. With the Steinberg lock, if there's an option for a software-only license, I would advise you to pick that unless you are working with multiple computers under the same license.

The 3rd generation iLok is well built and appears to be quite tough with its all metal body. The dongle has a footprint no larger than a USB port so it doesn't interfere with other neighboring devices and is reasonably short compared to previous versions. While the software could stand to be less cluttered, it gets the job done. Supposedly this version of the iLok can store 1500 or so licenses, but I can't imagine anyone ever needing anywhere even remotely near that many. If you're buying one of these it's because you have software that necessitates it or as a backup unit in case one fails, but since this one is so compact and with a sturdy metal body, I don't expect it to break.

First, I whole heartedly hate programs that require a dongle. I do most of my producing on a laptop and usually NOT on a desk with an attached dock, etc so they are the peak of inconvenience. I have a desktop and when there, it has so many extra ports, is stationary and in that config I could care less. I leave it plugged in one of the rear USB ports I wouldn't use anyway. But on a laptop these things are just annoying. That said, if you have to have one, this is a metal enclosure, is sturdy, no seams visible to open or break and it looks as good as a usb stick does to me since I like all metal usb sticks. Nothing else really matters. If you have to have it, this one does the trick. Please keep in mind that NOT ALL APPS USE THIS USB E-LICENSER!!! Steinberg Cubase for example DOES NOT use this. They have their own licenser and it's usually found in blue plastic. Check and double check you purchase the correct one.
