Product Description Convinced that she is not being taken seriously because of her looks, a pretty teenage girl enrolls in a new high school disguised as a boy, setting off a chain of events leading to comic hysteria, and more than a little social awareness. desertcart.com Though marketed as a raunchy teen sex comedy à la Porky's, Just One of the Guys is an amusing and well-acted comic riff on gender roles. Believing that she's lost a journalism contest because she's a woman, high school student Joyce Hyser disguises herself as a boy in order to see how the other half lives. Her investigation leads her to discover some interesting truths about how men and women treat each other in social and romantic situations. The screenplay by coproducers Jeff Franklin (a veteran TV scribe) and Dennis Feldman nicely balances the sex-driven gags with more character-driven material, which is well delivered by Hyser, Clayton Rohner as her eccentric pal, and especially Billy Jacoby as her perpetually aroused brother; the capable cast also includes Sherilyn Fenn and Arye Gross. Eighties music fans should also appreciate the soundtrack, which features tracks by Berlin, Lindsay Buckingham, and the Stooges. --Paul Gaita Review: Good movie - This is such a fun movie. I've seen it many times but held off on the purchase because the price seemed a little high. Finally on sale, I had to pick it up. Review: A fun 80s coming of age teen comedy - Just one of the Guys is, partly, a cookie-cutter 1980s teen comedy, but it does deviate partly from being completely cookie-cutter. The story does not start as the "typical" teen romantic comedy, it actually starts out with a theme of sexism as a journalism student named Terri, played by Joyce Hyser, is not entered in a competition by her teacher that would land her an internship at a newspaper, she decides that it is because she is a girl, and decides to enroll at a different school as "Terry" and hopefully get entered into the competition on her journalistic merit. From there it does get into the cookie-cutter 80s teen comedy with Teri falling for one of her classmates Rick Morehouse, played by Clayton Rohner, having to fend off a bully Greg, William Zabka, and being pursued as Terry by another classmate, Sandy, played by Sherilyn Fenn. Of course, hilarity ensues as she tries to hide being a guy and then in the end has to reveal, in spectacular fashion, that she is not a boy. For those looking to get the movie on disc, there is a Blu-Ray version out there that does have a commentary track with at least some of the cast members included. The DVD version just has the movie itself, no extras. It would be nice if there were a bit of behind-the-scenes material, but given that the movie was not anywhere near as big as some of the other 1980s teen comedies, it is not surprising that the release is pretty bare bones. Overall, the movie is good. Probably better than it got credit for being at the time. It definitely does require some suspension of disbelief, just like movies like Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead require. It is definitely not something that a kid could pull off in real life. But, if you accept it for what it is and do not overanalyze it too much, the movie is enjoyable. The acting is very good, with Billy Jacoby who plays Terri's little brother, Buddy stealing nearly every scene he is in, and Fenn doing sultry about as well as she did in Twin Peaks. While I would not call it a must-see, if you are into 80s comedies, especially the coming of age movies like Fast Times, this is a good one to check out.

One of the best 80's movies ever
Haven't seen this movie in years. Forgot how great it was. Joyce Hyser plays Teresa- an inspiring writer who wants to become a top journalist for the Sun Tribune. Her essay article wasn't selected as one of the finalist and she feels it's because she's a female. Convinced that her gender played a major part of the outcome, Teresa pretends to be "Terry" to prove her point that guys get more leeway than girls do. She transfers to another school giving her article to the head editor and quickly finds out 2 things: 1st, it's pretty tough being a guy. And 2nd, her writing technique is perfect but she has a lot to learn about how to captivate readers. She's told that her material is really boring and uninteresting were it's just not good enough to send to the Sun Tribune. So even as a guy, she failed her goal. But determined to prove herself as a writer, Teresa continues staying at her new school looking for a major story as Terry doing research. She befriends Rick (played by Clayton Rohner) and they instantly hit it off. She teaches him how to be hip and cool and in the process, actually falls for Rick as a result. But how do you tell your best friend you're really a girl pretending to be a guy using him for research for a writing contest? Everything that could go wrong does. Whether it's getting hit on by one of the hottest girls in school, Sandy (played by Sherilyn Fenn) or being bullied by Greg, the most popular jock in school (played by William Zabka better known to the world as Johnny Lawrence from the Cobra Kai dojo in Karate Kid). Not to mention always being hounded by her horny brother, Buddy (played by Billy Jayne) who's constantly trying to sleep with every woman he sees. This is a classic 80's film that never gets old and a must have for any old school fan in their collection.

When Terry, a young attractive 18yr old girl thinks that she'd have a better chance at being taken seriously has a writer if she were a boy, she decides that for her last year in high school she'll transfer to a new school disguised as a boy. Her sex starved hilarious younger boy keeps her on her toes, as she juggles love triangles, bullies, along with her old & new identities. This film never fails to put a smile on my face. A great time capsule. The bluray edition was released in 2020 containing cast/crew/directors commentary
