If you want to keep your plants alive, this isn’t must have if you’re not a big watering person
I feel like I give a lot of things five star reviews, but I don’t review the stuff that I wind up returning this. I went out of my way to review.I purchased a antique wheel barrel for my front porch and I wanted to fill it with plants, but I did not want to ruin the wheel barrel as it was wood with dirt or water so I purchased a plastic container that I filled with dirt and flowers and I put this self watering device in the bottom of the plastic container so that it would bleach water into the soil and feed the roots of these plants I did not want it to be soaking wet soil just damp soil to keep the plants alive.I’m pleasantly surprised how well this worked I installed it in the beginning of June and I have not yet had to fill the container more than one time. The plants are growing beautifully. They are overflowing out of the wheelbarrow just like I pictured. I’m so happy with the way this Self watering apparatus worked.

Not worth the effort or expense
I think the concept is sound but it fails in construction. I followed instructions, including pre-moistening the soil, but have had to re-fill the containers daily. IMO, the plastic is too thin for this application. The container bottom develops leaks I think due to flimsiness. I suspect if it were more substantial the reservoir wouldn’t be suitable to the application due to difficulty compressing to fit various width pots. Perhaps make different sizes for different pots where the plastic could be thicker rather than one size fits all.

We installed in planters
It is good to help keep plants watered when we are traveling. Easy to install and use. Once it is in pot it is not noticeable.

Helped but certainly was not as promised.
Have a bricked mailbox that no longer has watering. Thought this would be the answer. It helped but not close at all. I might as well water daily.

Impressive
I am a very long time gardener. And recently moved to the desert. This has saved some of my favorite plants.

Poor design, not easy to use or reliable.
Plant pots tend to be round... I bought their original black round ones, sturdy, fit great, 4 years and they are fine. In order to get this into a round pot so there is sufficient soil to plant, you almost squash by half, it is flimsy and every time I checked it was empty. The float filled with water and sank? Threw them out after a year.

Junk product
Junk, doesn’t work well, plastic leaks. Save your money.

So far, so good
I just embedded the watering tank into the pot of a newly acquired lemon tree. The tree's roots aren't long enough to reach the bottom of the pot yet, but the tank is clearly keeping soil most at bottom half of the pot because my top watering keeps soil moist for days (and tank has taken a couple of half-gallon refills already). The tank is easy to refill using a funnel with exposed tube. I think once tree is better established I won't have to top water very often. Note: it was hard to compress expandable tank into a 15" diameter pot, so won't fit anything smaller.
