Work well and saves space
All three have downloaded programs successfully with no hassle and no button pressing. The size is perfect for fitting into small enclosures. The double row of pins on each header makes customary breadboarding a real task, but that's part of the space saving feature. Overall, these are a great choice.

Haven’t really used them, but they are very well priced
Currently I am using a esp8266 for my Les projects, but plan to move to esp32. These are faster and have more functionality. If you’ve ever uses led light strips that are addressable, heck even if they aren’t, you need this software. The software is WLED Has many built in patterns, even has adjustable and can create segments out of one strip. Just go to install.wled.me. It’s completely free and has a discord community as well! With esp32 you can even have sound reactive lights! Esp32 is the way to go!

Used these with Home Assistant ESPresense to detect where people are in the house. Work well for being so inexpensive! Fun project!

Great for WLED... but watch for quirks
At first, I'd thought that these were faulty because my WLED installations via the webloader were not working. I found that during the installation you've got to press the boot button a few times in order to get the install to get going. What I like about the D1 mini form factor is that it does not have pinheaders already soldered in. I tend to like to solder my wires to the pads directly and keep the projects minimal.
