The most fun I've had with an art book in years!
This book was such a joy to peruse. Almost every page I discovered an intensively colored image of a variety of wood cuts - a medium I was unfamiliar with. I also enjoyed reading the text detailing the evolution of it's originally utilitarian purpose to it's remarkably crafted works of art. The Japanese section was one of my favorite sections of the book, yielding strong evodence of it's infouence in the Viennese tradition. A highly recommended tome on this underrepresented period in art history.

Exceeds expectations!
I ordered this as a novice, to keep beautiful things a little closer to home. My Dad, a professional saw it and enjoyed it enough, I ended up ordering a second copy for him. The illustrations are large, quality, full color reproductions. I like leaving it on the table open to a different page each day.

Gorgeous book.
This is a fabulous book. Beautifully put together. I hope to learn a lot from it and improve my woodcut prints.

Super! Part of the post-war renaissance that, alas, was doomed in Germany and Russia.
