Another top quality, comprehensive CD collection from Bear Family that covers Faron Young's years at Capitol Records and highlights his diverse talent. He was equally at home crooning Nashville Sound songs or gospel tunes, belting out rockabilly, or singing hardcore country. Young seems most comfortable with the hardcore country songs and they are, of course, my favorites on the set, but the inclusion of diverse examples of Faron's work during this period is interesting and beneficial for any huge fan of Faron Young or student of the history of Country Music. As with nearly all Bear Family sets, a casual fan would be better served with a smaller more economical greatest hits collection, but this is top of the line material for enthusiasts.

This box set was one of my first purchases when I started writing Faron's biography. As well as enjoying listening to the songs, I found great value in the booklet and the discography.Every song Faron recorded for Capitol records can be found on these five CDs. In addition to the songs that made him famous, listeners will hear his unsuccessful rock-n-roll attempts, his covers of old pop hits, and his sacred songs.

Worth every penny. You will never find another box set which covers an artist so completely. And the sound/recordings are clear and crisp. I absolutely love this box set and could not imagine anyone passing up a chance to own this.

dont waste your money this is the sorrest box set i ever bought the songs are not good

I bought this set basically to get just one song, one I couldn't find on any other CD, but wound up enjoying quite a few of the others on this comprehensive set. Great set, outstanding booklet, looks great, sounds even better. Of course, there are some covers of other artist's work plus not very successful attempts to cross over into the '50's Rock and Roll and pop, but with his ultra smooth voice, who cares what he sings, it all sounds good. Vol 1 is the best, his early honky tonk tear jerkers. Vol 5 has some nice sacred numbers as well. Overall, really superior technical quality and appearance, typical of the other Bear Family sets I have purchased, including the three Flatt and Scruggs sets. Keep it up, Bear Family.

This Bear Family box set kicks ass. Faron Young was one of the greatest post-Hank Williams honkytonk stars of the 1950s, and this collection has all his best material from his years on Capitol Records.Highly recommended!!

Still cant believe I got this for under a tenner and it looks in mint condition. Bear Family never disappoint in the packaging and this is from Young's strongest period. I have quite a few of the tracks on other collections but I rarely have enough money to sink into a Bear Family box and would have paid at least 4 x the price for this

Faron Young bevor er zu Mercury ging. CD 1 und 2 fahren im wesentlichen in Hank Williams' Kielwasser, ab CD 3 gewinnt Faron Young eigenes Profil. Mir persönlich scheinen seine späteren Mercury-Aufnahmen besser, vor allem weil er sich dort besser artikuliert, aber das ist Geschmackssache. Der Platz auf den fünf CD's ist auch (wie bei den meisten frühen, ich betone frühen Bear Family CD Boxen üblich) voll ausgenutzt, so dass man die Box jedem Faron Young Fan voll und ganz empfehlen kann, auch wegen der exzellenten Klangqualität.Excellent sound of this pre-Mercury set - any Faron Young fan should be well served. CD 1 and 2 are still closely aligned to Hank Williams, as of CD 3 he gains stature of his own. The 5 CD's are well filled (in good early, repeat: early Bear Family fashion)
