False positives, purchase at your own risk.
I purchased this lightning detector keeping in mind all of the negative reviews about false positives. I was hoping mine would be different. I was wrong. If you live in a rural location where there may not be much interference or you have plenty of room on your property to find a location without it, by all means this may work for you. However, if you are like me and live in a urban area, the likelihood that this thing will work for you is slim to none. I tried every sensitivity setting with the dip switches and none made any difference. I had at least one false positive strike every hour, all through the day and night, sometimes multiples. This on a cloudless day and night with no thunderstorms within 300 miles. For the 12 hours it was mounted, it had upwards of 40 false positives with 20 of those on the lowest sensitivity settings. If you have no problem with the expectation of returning, replacing or live in a rural setting, give it a try. If you live in a urban setting, just forget it and look for something else. All of the other Ecowitt products I own work flawlessly, but this one is a dud unfortunately.

Adds Lightning Detection to present systems
Fast easy way to add lightning detection to your Ecowitt weather station. Also the GW2000 "hub" will interface with the Ambient weather stations adding to the value of both. As for accuracy I get several lightning alerts per week that are not actually lightning so subtracted a star for that. Yes you can adjust the sensitivity but if you reduce it so there are no false alarms, it degrades the distance it will detect lightning. Overall a great addition to a weather station.

Weakest Ecowitt link
I'm all in on the Ecowitt ecosystem with almost every sensor they offer (except air quality). I've been very pleased with all the other products, but the lightning sensor is not great. I get false positives pretty much every day, no matter how nice the weather is - yet during a storm when lightning and thunder were crashing all around, with strikes reported as close as a mile away, the Ecowitt sensor showed only a small increase in frequency.

Use Rechargeable Batteries
The only way I could get mine to work reliably was to use rechargeable batteries instead of alkaline or lithium batteries.

Very satisfied
Seems to work better than the lightning detector built into the Tempest weather station.

Works well
Typically we don't get a lot of lightening in our area but did have a storm go through today. The WH57 showed the closest lightening at 5 miles which seemed pretty accurate.

I must say, I’m surprised at just how well this lightning sensor works. I was lucky enough to have a major thunderstorm forecast in my area within 24 hours of setting it up, so I was able to see it working! See the photos of the display console and the graph from the app. I installed the lightning sensor with Energiser lithium batteries and the switches in default setting. Installation was easy. I already had an Ecowitt HP2564 weather station and display console (which discovered the new sensor immediately), so I attached the lightning sensor to the plastic mounting pole (see attached photo). During a thunderstorm the following day, I saw a lightning flash, followed some seconds later by thunder. About a minute later, the weather station recorded the strike at about 5 miles distant, which seemed right by my calculations. The most distant strike recorded was at 27 miles. I am very pleased with my purchase. It performs as well as I had hoped.
