The Tomix 6433 Track Cleaning Car Red & ED61 Type Set N Scale is a well made cleaning car/engine set. The engine is a trolley car. The trolley car has good weight and good power to pull the cleaning car. The trolley car seems to glued to the track regardless of possible difficulties with the track.The cleaning car functions either as a vacuum as it goes around the layout OR as a track cleaner. The cleaning car comes with a removable fan that provides the vacuum function. When the vacuum function is not used, scrubbing pads replace the vacuum fan. There are two types of scrubbing pads. One appears to be an extremely fine sandpaper and the other is a more coarse kind of cloth or fiber based cleaning pad. I don't have roadbed gravel for the fan to pick up loose gravel. So I have not noticed any dirt in the collection bin of the cleaning car. The cleaning car is also weighted as it has a motor to operate the fan and cleaning pads. The cleaning car is powered from the track. The Tomix 6433 Track Cleaning Car Red & ED61 Type Set N Scale is a DC system. If you want the cleaning car to do the job, you will need to run the train at a relatively high speed so that full power is provided to the cleaning car.Together the trolley and the cleaning car seem to work well. The local N scale train club use this same setup for their layout which is quite extensive. Obviously, other cleaning options need to be employed as well. This is just one tool in the tool box to keep your track clean and operating efficiently.The Tomix 6433 Track Cleaning Car Red & ED61 Type Set N Scale is made in Japan for use by Japanese train enthusiast. This means that ALL of the instructions for use and operation of the Tomix 6433 Track Cleaning Car Red & ED61 Type Set N Scale are written in Japanese! The only English are a few words that are not part of the instructions. I will say that the instructions have a lot of pictures which help you to figure out how things work. Now if you read Japanese, then you will have no problem at all.Would I recommend the Tomix 6433 Track Cleaning Car Red & ED61 Type Set N Scale? Absolutely! I am very impressed with the quality, design and operation.

Amazon has the best deal anywhere on this. Goes on sale regularly for $55. This is a very nice set with the reliable Tomix ED61 and motorized Track Cleaning car. They usually sell for the same price individually, costing you double. The ED61 is rated for small 150mm (6in) radius curves. DCC conversion is a full solder job on both vehicles.

Don't waste you time and money...........this item is junk. Cleaning car would not switch on when received. switch or motor inoperable. GARBAGE!

The media could not be loaded. The packaging is very vice. Shipping was surprisingly fast about 7 days. The cars are very nice looking and heavy.The engine pulls the cleaner car very good on my DC track even on steep grades.The vacuum on the vacuum car did not turn on. I had to return and reorder. If Amazon lets me I will post a new review on the replacement.Customer service is handled thru Amazon USA which is no help for troubleshooting. I attached the instructions in English.Sorry for them being out of order but, I think they will be helpful to anyone purchasing these trains.

One good feature is the engine that has a compatible coupler with the cleaning car. You don’t have to change couplers to run the cleaning car. The cleaning car works best as a vacuum cleaner. I have an around the room shelf layout and a lot of the track is difficult to access. This car really did the job.I did not use the abrasive pad cleaning option because I felt the sandpaper pads would damage my track.The cleaning pad was OK, but it tore up quickly when passing over switches.I am happy just using this as a vacuum cleaner car.After using it, I would buy it again.

Use these 2 alone to vacuum track. Engine has plenty of power to pull heavy cleaning car up a rather steep grade. It is difficult to change rapido coupler on the cleaning car so having tomix loco at a good price (in set) is very worthwhile.

The cleaning car is to hard to pull even with Kato motor. On a 13.75 in / 348mm radius it has a struggle to make the curves without full voltage. The Locomotive sits too close to track. Scrapes on the crossing rerailers. My layout is all Kato and close to perfect, Too many problems! Had to return and its a pain must go back to Japan!

For the price it works well on DC track.I wish I found this years ago.If you have a real train layout this is a must.
