NOT for Comcast Infinity only
THIS IS NOT FOR COMCAST ONLY! It is also compatible with Cox internet. And probably many other internet provider services!!! It is a Great router. Very fast. Good range. The Amazon description is EXTREMELY MISLEADING. I do NOT have comcast infinity service. My wifi and cable provider is COX! I called Cox before I purchased this and was told that this IS on their list of approved modems that work with Cox service. After I purchased this, I called Cox to come to my house and set it up because I am not at all tech savvy. You could probably easily do it yourself. As it turned out, it was a good thing that I did call the Cox man because even he had trouble installing it. The trouble that the Cox man had was due to Amazon's fault - it was not due to any difficulty in installing it. Amazon shipped me a router that had a serial number on the outside of the box that did not match the serial number of the modem inside the box. and a different, non matching serial number was on the modem. The Cox man did not realize it for a while and that was why he had so much trouble trying to get it up online. Once he figured out that Amazon put the wrong item into my box and he got the correct serial number, then it worked right away.I am wondering if any accompanying documentation or warranty is supposed to be included in the box with this modem because my box had nothing in. It. I suspect that this had been opened and returned and mispackaged by Amazon afterwards and then sold to me. If anyone else leaves a message here can you please state if there was warranty or paperwork that is supposed to come with this. All in all, I DO recommend this modem. My test speeds have greatly increased. Am not positive but I think my Cox internet plan is for speeds of up to 50 and I am getting average speed readings of downloads 75.01-75.32 Mbps and uploads average speeds of between 5.29 and 5.67 Mbps.It is rather large. It is flat with 4antennae that stand 7 1/2 " high. The depth is 7 1/2 " and the width is 12 1:2". It is a medium weight. I highly recommend and I would buy it again. It is not too heavy. I hope this helps someone. I just wish I knew how to register my product and that Amazon had not switched boxes on my modem!

Great modem/router for DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit internet
Purchased this for use with Comcast's Gigabit internet (DOCSIS 3.1) to replace the XB6 modem that Comcast leases with the service and overall I am very pleased with the purchase.Installation was super easy via Comcast's self-activation website, per the instructions on the included quick start guide. The lights on the left side of the device conveniently light up white for 1000 Mbps ethernet connections or amber for 10/100 Mbps connections.I'm getting about 900-950Mbps download and 40-42Mbps upload speeds on my PC on a wired connection (service is advertised as up to 1Gbps download and 35 Mbps upload speeds). My smartphone and other devices connected via 5Ghz WiFi are averaging speeds of 300-400 Mbps down and 35-42Mbps up. The wired speeds are comparable to what I was getting on the XB6, and WiFi speeds appear to be consistently faster and more stable on the C7800. I can't speak much to the range because I have a pretty small space and have been getting a stable WiFi connection everywhere on both modems I've used with the service. The Netgear Genie interface is intuitive, though a bit sluggish, for navigating and changing all the various settings. I also can't speak to any of the advanced features, as I've not had to change anything out of the box except for WiFi passwords. Ultimately, I was looking to avoid leasing equipment and wanted a DOCSIS 3.1 modem with built-in router and at least 4 ethernet ports (vs. only 2 on the XB6) to connect my PC, TV, and gaming consoles. This appears to be the only device on the market out right now (July 2017) that checks all the boxes for my needs and it performs as expected.I lucked out and was able to snatch this up during a brief (launch promo?) period when Amazon sold it directly for $325, which contributed to my five-star rating as a great value. At that price point, I thought it was a good deal considering a separate DOCSIS 3.1 modem and router of similar specs bought together would run closer to the $400 MSRP. At full price, I'd probably rate it at 4 stars since you do have some options and can potentially save money if you don't mind having two separate devices and buying a modem and router separately.

What an upgrade from the Asus 68U router...like wow.
This Router/Modem is huge. But thats a good thing. Its large enough for you to slap two 120mm fans on it to keep it ice cold all the time. The status lights are bright. The tips of the antennas light up and the best part is it SOLVED a huge problem I have been having. We have a 1200 square foot home, concrete block btw (Florida) and we FINALLY have full bars on the 5 GHz spectrum, yes 5 ghz. All throughout our house! No more internet drops, not a single connection issue. When it connects it is ROCK solid with you even walking through the house. We just got 400 Megabit internet from Spectrum and needed an upgrade and decided to go all iut on this combo. We've only had it for a few days now but I am already super happy the wifi reach war is over. We purchased the Triband Asus router, forget the model to try and solve our reach issue, (I would have netflix disconnect in my room. 20 feet from our router, and the new router was just as terrible as the 68U.This nighthawk is no joke though! Highly recommend for a future proof router for a while!Update: So we came home from work last week and the router was SYPER slow. I rebooted it. Then factory reset it, did like 4 hours of trouble shooting. The ethernet works fine hard wired when we rested a laptop, but the wifi seems to have pooped out. Even with fans keeping it cool it STILL failed. That should not have happened....considering we paid over 400 dollara for it. Failures like weak wifi and slow wifi speeds just should not happen. We watch youtube, netflix and hulu andnoccasionally play our switch online. We're not heavy users and like I said theres fans on them 24 hours a say.

Very strong wifi signal
I purchased this product so that the internet could be seen from anywhere in our 3000 sq ft home with as many as 15 or so different devices. My daughter will be living in the home with a bunch of roommates for college. When school starts in the fall, we will see how well it connects to so many devices. But as of right now, the wifi signal is very strong throughout the house. I also really like that there is a Guest Network that you can set up. That way you can remember an easy password for your guests without giving away the password to the main network. The user interface was good. I am pretty computer literate and understood beforehand how to set up the modem/router with our own network name, username, and password. If tech support is any good (I did not need to call), they should be able to walk you through the steps very easily since everything is pretty straight forward. You might even be able to figure it out on your own. Here are a few basic steps. (I am not in the same place as the device (modem/router) anymore and so can't confirm exactly.)There is written on the device a url to go to on Chrome or other browser. You will need to put in the username and password to access the device (which again is found on the device). From there, you can access the device to make changes. I was able to change to name of the networks. There was regular, 5G, and Guest networks available. I was also able to change the passwords for each of those networks. There are also a lot of other capabilities of the modem/router that I didn't delve into.I am really loving this modem/router.

Good but not great
The Nighthawk X4S is a great "all-in-one" modem/router. According to the Ookla speed test that I ran with my old DOCSIS 3.0 modem and this one yielded similar results so no benefit right now until DOCSIS 3.1 is deployed. I live in a condo where there are several other units with WiFi so channel strength and interference are tough to balance. The one minor flaw that the X4S has versus my older Asus WiFi router is that the channels are much more limited with the X4S. With my old WiFi router I could access channels that none of my neighbors were using. Unfortunately, you can only set the X4S to "common" channels so you will have interference if you live in a condo like I do; however, I do not notice any drop in WiFi and the range is bit better. The unit is huge. By looking at the pictures alone, I thought it would be comparable or not much bigger than other WiFi routers. Additionally, the light are very bright and illuminate my closet. The app and online interface are not as intuitive as the Asus interface but functionally similar. Basic and advanced settings can be set but navigation can be a little cumbersome if not annoying on the online interface. I have smart plugs throughout my condo and the Netgear app likes to consolidate or treat them as one item. I use the TP Link HS105 and HS110 smart plugs. I have 9 across my condo but can see only one HS105 and one HS110 when I have 4 and 5 of them respectively. This doesn't affect functionality but it doesn't accurately list all items connected to the router. These little things do not hinder the function of my smart devices or slow down my WiFi experience but for the price, I was expecting a bit more so one star deducted.
