A fantastic product that solves a very expensive problem for just $10
First of all, if you're going to use this product directly with a non-powered microphone without a microphone amplifier, it may not work. Note that most XLR microphones belong to this category. (Someone posted a video to initially say it does work, but later specifically warned that he no longer recommended doing that. It's completely surprising to me that it would work in any occasion at all. All this cable does is to convert microphone output signals to USB audio signal. There is no amplification in this cable. What most people don't know is that the vast majority of professional microphones do not have built-in amplification and therefore need a microphone amplifier, while most consumer microphones have built-in amplification and therefore do not need a microphone amplifier. The reason is very simple: professional microphones need versatility of preamplification, often very expensive ones. Having a built-in preamplification in a microphone deprives that versatility. Cheap built-in microphone amplifiers would create crappy signals, which once happens cannot be cured by any downstream amplification.)BUT BACK TO WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS DESIGNED FOR,if you do have a pre-amplified microphone or a proper combination of a microphone and an amplifier, this product works. And it does a fantastic job. I have tested it on Audacity and also with speech recognition software, and both show very clean and high quality sound input for recording or speech recognition. You might ask why would anyone need this product when you already have both a microphone and amplifier? The answer is simple: you want to use the USB sound, bypassing the business of interfacing between the amplifier and a computer soundcard, which can be extremely problematic. If you are interested in why, read along.THE BACKGROUND BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT:I use a professional grade condenser mic, along with a quite good dedicated stand alone microphone preamplifier. But all this great equipment does not work with the computer very well. The reason: poor compatibility between professional grade microphone output with the built-in soundcard's microphone input. Sometimes it simply does not work. When it works a little, the sound quality is poor, and to make it even worse, it is often unreliable, and prone to interferences due to poor shielding of built-in computer components. In the past, I had bought numerous equipment to solve this problem, including several USB sound interfaces which tend to be quite expensive and also would render my high quality standalone microphone pre-amplifier useless. I ended up buying a very expensive soundcard to be installed on the computer, and used its line input to receive the output signal from the microphone preamplifier. It worked well, but when I got a new computer recently, the soundcard could not be installed because the new computer lacked a proper interface slot.It seemed the only solution was to buy another expensive high-end soundcard. But before I did that, I found this cable and gave it a try. I didn't really have much confidence that it would work, but decided to give it a try anyway because it was so cheap. It worked. And it does a fantastic job. I couldn't be happier.

Possibly Defective
May have defective cable but audio input volume is barely registering in Windows 10. I am using Behringer XM 8500 mic with this cable. Using OBS software I need to boost to 600% in the software in order to get normalized sound volume - it sounds great there, but in all other apps it is barely audible unless you boost the heck out of it. Noticed also that the end of the connector is slightly bent, not sure if that has anything to do with the quality.EDIT: User error. I had to reformat my computer, so don't make the same mistake I did. Basically when I plugged this thing in for the first time I immediately pulled it out before Windows 10 had a chance to fully install the driver. When I re-plugged it back in I started getting blue screens. Moral of the story this was user error and cable works as intended. Once I reformatted, I simply plugged the cable and mic back in and allowed it to do its thing. It works perfectly. Volume is still really low, unless you are right up on the mic but I think that is the case with all dynamic microphones. Gave item 5 stars and hope this review helps some out.

USB is one way only
Works as expected. Input ONLY.This is exactly what you'd expect, but you have to know to expect it. Many USB interfaces are two-way: input and output. This one is INPUT only. Mic to USB port. Don't expect to be able to send output to speakers. On a Mac, the software shows the output option. Ignore it. In fact make sure you're NOT sending speaker output to the USB, 'cause your mic doesn't make a good speaker.

Saves you Money
This cable works GREAT. I sure wished I had seen this last year before I bought my nephew his Yeti Mic. I have a Cad 25A Super Cardioid and Audio Tecnica Cardioid Mic, but between the two of them, no way to connect them directly to my computers. And I hate using cheap built in mics, or cheap lavalier type mics. Especially already having good microphones. In the past I would record music onto an old Boss BR8 that uses DAT-MD disks, then copy them onto CD's, then onto my computer. Not anymore. I can record directly onto my computer. And use the same mics for chatting. Giving Cortana instructions, writing emails, whatever. The cable is plug and play on Windows 10, which is what all my computers are. And it didn't take 5 seconds to set up. if that long. Once plugged into your USB port, a red light will flash. opposite end of the cable is the female end of a 3 Pin plug. And without getting out my measuring tape, 5-6 feet of cable. And this is good heavy quality cable to I might add. So if you already have your mics, and just need a way to plug them into your computer, all you need is this cable, and a free USB port on your computer. Oh, and $12 bucks if you are an Amazon prime member. Then you'll be good to go. I think this Cable is a winner all the way around, and I definitely recommend it without the least bit of hesitation.

In writing, inside the package: "we will make no effort to help you out" see picture- hard to trust this product and company.
UPDATE: DOES NOT work with Condensor mics, at all. Only dynamic mics. Not a huge surprise, but, important. This means if you have a mic that requires power to operate, this cable does not supply that.I'm baffled by this one. The product appears to work fine, BUT, see attached picture. That's the documentation that came with it. I single small sheet of paper about 2X2.5 inches. Here's what the last sentence says: "Any question, please feel free to contact us before reviewing, we will make no effort to help you out."Yep; we will make NO effort to help you out. Typo? Maybe, even likely, but, sheesh... I don't have much faith in a company standing behind its product when they put _in writing_, and very small print, they'll make no effort to help you.
