DIFFERENT TAKE ON IMMATURE HEROES...ON THEIR BEGINNINGS AND THE WAY THEY SAW THE WORLD AND EACH OTHER BEFORE THEY BECAME FRIENDS
This is a young Batman. All of the other heroes were young too and they didn't even knew each other well. You have to really see when he uses the word God damn why does he do it. The first time it's to scare Robin and he even thinks about it afterwards, like saying something about "this kid doesn't scare easily". He's testing the kid, right then an there to see how he reacts. I thought it is a fantastic story and yes, it has its humor but at the same time it's pretty serious. When he laughs before beating the crooks I believe he's sort of enjoying what he does, it is the Batman in his beginnings. Why wouldn't he enjoy it? He's Batman, not Bruce Wayne, and he's young and maybe STILL a bit immature. Maybe Miller wanted to explore that dark side of Batman even more, and he got a chance here and he took it. Risky, but I loved it. We are not looking at a mature Batman. He hasn't even met Superman properly and they aren't even friends. Same goes for Wonder Woman. She comes from a place where women rule. She sees Metropolis and Gotham and compared to where she comes from, she believes men are responsible for the way things are and that's why she hates them so much. They really don't know each other. It's the beginning, before the birth of long lasting friendships. They are immature in a lot of ways and so is Batman. But it's a really good story, also. Mainly on the young characters, and to see sides of their immaturity, bodes well with the whole structure of the book. Some people here don't get it. They seem to fixate on Batman laughing and saying god damn a couple of times. He really had his reasons and I could explain them if you want me to. I LOVED MILLER'S story and JIM LEE'S ART!!!!!

Arrived in Great Shape
I was completing the series and was delighted to find this Special. I was missing 1 & 2 and never dreamed I'd find a Special too. Now I can read from 1 to 10 with the Special as an added bonus!

Sin City
It is Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson with Sin City dialogue. If you accept that, then this is great. If you don’t, you will hate this book.

Batman The 1980s Summer Action "B" Movie
I can promise you this book is unlike anything you will have ever read before. Going into this a huge batman fan (and a even bigger Frank Miller fan), I read this book many years ago and I will never forget thinking "What the ***k did I just read?". I finished the book and while even to this day I still believe this is Jim Lees FINEST artwork to date (He probably wanted to make up for lack of story). I couldn't help but think this book was just pure trash. Joker with tats having sex with women? Batman literally abducting a child and forcing him to eat rats? Batman calling himself the "God damn" Batman who drives a "God Damn" Batmobile? A justice league with Superman, an Annoying Green Lantern, A sexist Wonder Woman, and....Plastic Man....? I Left this book originally thinking Millers from "Year One" and "Dark Knight Returns" is gone.It wasn't until several years later I got the joke. This wasn't supposed to be "Year One" or "Dark Knight Returns". This wasn't supposed to be "Long Halloween" or the "Man who laughs" or any of those other epic batman stories. This was Batman "Sin City". This was Batman the "cheesy 80s action movie". I read this book originally and took it too seriously but at not point in the story does Miller. Miller is clearly a lover of the 80s. Movie like terminator and robocop to name a few. This is his version of a 1980s B action story Batman. Once I accepted that fact I was able to have a lot of fun.Like another reviewer said the story isn't complete but you can technically have a "Ending" if you stop at issue ten. Honestly I understand many people will hate this comic and thats OK. This is not a story to be taken seriously but instead to be enjoyed for its fun romps and over the top dialogue. This book is just popcorn fun and its also a beautiful book to look at as well.I hope you enjoyed my review!

Misunderstood Masterpiece That's Not for Everyone
I think "All-Star Batman & Robin" is one of the most misunderstood of the great Batman books. Yes, it's offensive, sexist, and ultra-violent. It doesn't paint Batman in the best possible light, and it doesn't intend to. "All-Star Batman & Robin" is the most "realistic" take on what "kind" of Batman would actually recruit a kid as his crime fighting partner. There is no way that the mature, level-headed Batman of Year One, Shaman, Prey, Long Halloween, and Dark Victory would put a kid in tights and have him jump off rooftops. THIS Batman, however, all ego, trapped in arrested development, and enraged at the world, would have NO problem adding a kid to his war. Miller is having fun with this idea while satirizing the "grim, gritty, serious" superhero niche he himself created in the '80s. This Batman is also very much the Batman of the late '30s and early '40s as well -- grinning, laughing, brash, and overconfident while smashing criminals to a pulp. This story is loud, over-the-top, brutal, disturbing, darkly humorous and haunting. It's an unconventional look at Batman, but one that remains true to the character nevertheless. It's also about the connection of two lost souls and how they form a team of "us against the world." Not to be taken as the "definitive" story of the formation of the Dynamic Duo, but another worthwhile piece to the tapestry that makes up the 75 year-old legend of the Batman. Jim Lee's artwork is also gorgeous and a nice contrast to the "ugliness" of the writing. This is not for everyone, so you might want to check out the less expensive softcover if you're interested in a unique take on an iconic character.
